THE SECONDARY SECTOR


LIKE IN SPAIN?

The secondary sector includes activities that


transform raw materials into manufactured goods
and products . The main activities are energy
production, manufacturing and construction.

ENERGY PRODUCTION

We obtain energy from energy sources. We use


energy for transport, industry and in our
homes. There are two types:

•Renewable energy sources.


•Non-renewable energy sources.
RENEWABLE

Can be used again and again. They include
sunlight , wind, water, heat produced inside the
Earth, and biomass. Biomass is organic material
that comes from plants and animals.
NON-RENEWABLE ENERGY

These energy sources will one day run out.
Petroleum,coal,natural gas and uranium.

ENERGY PRODUCTION

Renewable energy sources offer advantages like:

•They reduce CO2 emisions, so the air is cleaner.


•They do not generate polluting waste.
•They are sometimes called infinite energy
resources.

Manufacturing make products with the use of


manual labour or machinery on a large scale .
The main manufacturing industries are:

•These industries make products that are


used as raw materials by other industries.
•For example, steel es produced from iron.
•The mayority of the basic industries are
in the País Vasco, Cataluña and
Comunidad de Madrid.

•They produce machines, tools and construction materials.
•The majority of these industries are in Cataluña, Comunidad
de Madrid and the Comunitat Valenciana.

the consumer.
•They produce food products, textiles,
pharmaceutical products, electronics and cars.
•These industries are located on the outskirts of
cities and towns all over Spain.

(infrastructures), like bridges, motorways and airports.
Spain’s economy has largely been based on the
construction sector:
•In the secondary sector, which produces building
materials.
•In the service sector, wich provides transport and other
services like the sale of homes.
