Evaluation
● Considering that ports are frequently situated in or close to coastal areas, which
are some of the most ecologically diverse and productive ecosystems on the world,
the environmental effect of ports is particularly problematic. These habitats and the
animals that depend on them may suffer serious repercussions as a result of the harm
caused by port activity.
● Although their effect is particularly problematic I think there are things that at
the moment impact the environment much more that should be immediately dealt
with, this doesn’t mean dealing with the port problem wouldn’t help the environment.
The Port of Trieste Example
● In order to encourage the use of renewable energy, the Port of Trieste has put in
place a shore-to-ship power connection that enables ships to connect to the power
grid while in port and thereby reduce emissions. This encourages the usage of
renewable energy while lowering the consumption of fossil fuels.
