Course Unit Objectives

• To introduce Human Resource Management concepts, theories,

techniques and policies regarding the human Resource Management


Functions.

• To understand the role of HR Manager in improving efficiency and


effectiveness of the organization.

• To provide necessary skill to make human resource related decisions

 It is animate, active, and living.


 Ability to think, feel and react.
 Its value appreciates with the passage of time (because
of experience, training etc.).
 Ability to influence on determining its cost.
 Ability to organize (as unions, teams etc.)
 Its behavior is complex and may be unpredictable.
 Ability of creativity and innovation, which cannot be
found in any other resources.
 Makes decisions in respect of all other resources.

Line and Staff Aspects of HRM

 All managers are HR Managers:

They all involved in activities such as recruiting, interviewing, selecting and


training.

 Line managers: have authority to issue orders to other managers and


employees.

 Staff Managers: have the right to advice other managers or employees.

 Usually they are staff managers.

 HR managers assist and advise line managers in areas such


as recruiting, hiring, and compensation.
