    Anatomy is the study of the structure of biological organisms. The science of anatomy originated in ancient Egypt but was first formally studied by Hippocrates in Alexandria in the 5th century BC. Important early anatomists included Aristotle, who coined the term "anatom", and Galen, who documented his observations from animal dissections. Andreas Vesalius is considered the father of modern anatomy, publishing Seven Books on the Structure of the Human Body which opposed and corrected the misconceptions of Galen. The British parliament passed the Anatomy Act of 1832, allowing medical schools to acquire cadavers for anatomical study.
