Using Print and Non-Print
Materials
Print
Materials
A print source is exactly as its name
suggests- material that has been printed
and can be reproduced in a hard copy.
Examples of print sources are books,
magazines, scholarly journals and
newspapers
Non-Print Materials
According to Collins Dictionary, non-print
materials are published in a format other than
print or paper. It is said to be more interactive
because it allows the readers to see other related
stories through links at the side. It is also more
convenient especially for e-book readers.

Examples:
Tv and radio program, personal interview,
recording, film etc.
LINEAR and
NON-LINEAR
TEXTS
LINEAR
TEXTS
Linear text refers to
traditional text that needs to
be read from beginning to
the end
NON-LINEAR
TEXTS

Nonlinear text refers to text

that does not need to be
read from beginning to the
end.
The key difference between linear and nonlinear text is their
reading path. In a linear text, a reader can make sense of the
text by reading sequentially, from beginning to the end.
However, in a nonlinear text, the reading path is nonlinear and
non-sequential; thus, the reader can choose his own reading
path.
A reading path is the path or the way the reader’s take through
a text. There are two paths as linear and nonlinear texts
depending on this reading path.
