Renewable Energy

V.S
Non-renewable Energy
Introduction
• Energy is power derived from the utilization of physical or chemical
resources, especially to provide light and heat or to work machines.
• There are 2 types of energy:
1. Renewable energy is energy derived from natural sources that are
replenished at a higher rate than they are consumed.
2. Nonrenewable energy comes from sources that will run out or will
not be replenished in our lifetimes—or even in many, many lifetimes
Sources of Energy
Renewable Energy Non – Renewable Energy
• Wind Power - electrical energy obtained from • Fossil Fuels (Coal, Oil, Natural Gas) - energy
harnessing the wind with windmills or wind sources that are derived from gas, crude oil,
turbines. petroleum products, and non-renewable
• Solar Power - radiant energy emitted by the sun. wastes. These fuels originate from plants and
animals that existed in the geological past
• Hydropower – the source of energy that
generates power by using a dam or diversion • Nuclear Energy - the energy released during
structure to alter the natural flow of a river or nuclear fission or fusion
other body of water.
• Geothermal Energy – heat within the earth.
• Biomass - organic matter used as a fuel,
especially in a power station for the generation
of electricity.
