HSE SECTOR

BELAYIM PETROLEUM
COMPANY
Introduction
???What and Why HSE
What H.S.E. ?
HEALTH
SAFETY
& ENVIRONMENT
Why H.S.E. ?
To ensure -first- the human factor safety,
then the equipment safety, and environmental
protection against pollution.

This item can be done by reducing the

risks activities and recovering points of
deficiencies appears as a result of work
activities and human faults.
Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE)
Head protection (helmet).
Hands protection (gloves).
Eye protection (goggles).
Foot protection (safety boot).
Special other equipments used for specific jobs
as radioactive suits.
Oil suits and boots.
Fire fighting suits.
FIRE
FIRE THEORY:
IT is just a quick oxidation process for
substances combined with heat and light as a
result of abnormal excitation by heat in
presence of suitable reaction conditions.
Three factors are required for fire.
1. Presence of composite substance.
2. Presence of oxygen.
3. Presence of source of heat (spark).

Fire

Composite material
.Fire Fighting Tech
Cut flow of the composite material source.(‫)تجويع النار‬

Fire isolation to restrict the oxygen coordination. (‫)خنق النار‬

Reduce the fire temperature by water or other sources.(‫تبريد‬

Fire Classification
Class A

Class B

Class C

Class D
Class A

 Fire initiates in Solid subs. with organic nature

(carbon components).

 Ex (Paper, Wood and other plant fibers).

 Water is the best method for this type as most of these

materials are membranous and absorb water so cooling
Class B
Fire initiates in composite liquids substances

 They can be classified into

 Water soluble sub. And water insoluble sub.

 According to type the method is detectedand these methods are

 Water-foam sprinkling

 Halogen gas vapors

 Co2

 Dry power.
Class C
Initiates in composite gases

 Ex (Petroleum liquefied gases)

 Powder and Foam used in case of its leakage.

 Water sprinkling also used for cooling.
Class D D
METALS
Fire that initiate in metal substances

 Water is not suitable for this method also CO2

and powder containing bicarbonate salts.
 Usually Graphite powder or Talk Powder are

used for this type of fire

 Dry sand may be used too.
Electrical Fires
Fires initiates from electric source then it take
another direction according to the influenced
ground
 Cutting the power supply is the first application
 Then treat the fire as it will be classified.

 If you can’t cut the power,!!!!! USE bad conductor

materials (do not conduct the electric power).
Using of fire extinguisher
HAZARD
CLASSIFICATION
Mechanical Hazards

Chemical Hazards

Natural Hazards

Biotic Hazards
Mechanical Hazards
Risks happened due to motion.

This motion may be in the part that cause it

Or may be in the intermediate that carry this part
Or may be in the injured person
Chemical Hazards
All risks happened due to chemicals
with all of its phases

 Solid.
 Liquid.

 Gas.
Natural Hazards

Risks due to nature factors

 heat, humidity, wind speed, electricity, light, sound

and vibrations.
Biotic Hazards

Risks due to biotic creatures

 Microbes and Viruses

Surveys / investigation
Annual Survey
 Done over all the areas for risk evaluation
Periodic Survey
 Depends upon the activity nature.
Special Survey
 In cases of
 Repetitive risks and accidents.
 New installed equipments.

 New plan application.

 New trained personnel.

 In case of accident.
?Who do so

The main person for each area/sector is the

area/ Sector supervisor.
committee of HSE, Maintenance representatives,
and the all dept. heads plan a general survey for
each dept., then a special surveys done over the
dept. that increase in accidents were noticed in,
by doing so the risks will be valuated and the
HSE will recommend the best ways to recover
and prevent reoccurrence of it.
Environmental Protection

How do petroleum industry

pollute the Environment.???
Sources of pollution
Oil pollution in sea water.
Gases and liquids inland from processing
facilities.
Light hydrocarbon gases.
Ballast water discharge.
Oil leakage due to charge and discharge.
Oil tankers accidents is a catastrophe..
Radioactive materials (NORM) contamination.
What happened when oil spill
in sea water?
Oil spills in water have 3 fates
 First is some of it evaporates to the atmosphere
(light hydrocarbons).
 The second will remain floated over the sea water
due to density.
 The third will be combined with water forming
suspended balls which will be sink down and form
the tar balls.
so
We have in our hands only solution for those
floated part
REMEMBER: if we gain time factor, all
pollution can be only floated spill.
This oil spill were gathered and concentrated by
booms for over control
This concentration can be dragged to a specific
place away of sensitive shorelines.
(i.e. from high valuable to low valuable shores
then treatment will starts.)
What about the used sea
?water in process areas

Water used in the processing facilities are mainly

from sea water.
The cooling waters must be reduced.
More gas separation process must be done
specially for acidic water.
More sufficient oil separation must be done
