PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS
are trained and licensed to provide psychological service in
different settings. They study the characteristics of the clients,
their needs and the environment that shapes these individuals.
Settings where professional
counselors provide services
Government
• Guidance counselors in the government
Setting
sector usually work in collaboration
with social workers.
• They provide counseling and other
guidance socio-emotional needs.
• Counselors also extend help and
services to municipal and barangay
offices - by LGU.
• Example: Department of Social Welfare
and Development (DSWD)
Private Practice
• Part-time or full time private practice. They
may practice as an individual or in
partnership with other groups.
• In private practice, may also enter in either
general practice - where the usual guidance
service or specialized service - which they may
devote themselves in specialized counseling
that addresses concerns such as addiction,
abuse and crisis.
Civil Society
• Civil Society means the general population
or the public.
• Pastoral Counselors - those who work in
parishes and churches. They provide
counseling services to individual with
concerns relevant to issues of morality and
spirituality.
• Professional counselors in this settings, may
provide counseling in general public.
School
• Professional counselors in the school setting
provide programs and services that address the
cognitive, social, emotional, moral and spiritual
needs of students.
