WHAT IS
WEB
World Wide Web (WWW): Often, when people refer to the "web," they
are talking about the World Wide Web, commonly known as the WWW.
The World Wide Web is a system of interconnected hypertext
documents and multimedia content that is accessed via the internet
using web browsers.
WEB
Time Frame: Late 1980s to early 2000s.
1.0
Characteristics: Web 1.0 is often referred to as the "static" or
"read-only" web. During this phase, the internet was primarily
used for one-way communication. Websites were static and
provided information to users, who were passive consumers.
Content creation was limited to web developers and content
providers.
WEB
Time Frame: Early 2000s onwards.
2.0
Characteristics: Web 2.0 represents a shift towards a more dynamic
and interactive web. Users became active participants, contributing to
content creation, sharing information, and collaborating online. Social
media platforms, blogs, wikis, and user-generated content became
prominent. Web 2.0 is characterized by the rise of user engagement,
social networking, and the emergence of platforms that encourage
collaboration and sharing.
FOLKSONOMY
Allows user to categorize and classify information using freely chosen
keywords. Tagging by FB, twitter, use tags that start with the sign #,
referred to as hashtag.
LONG TAIL
Services that are offered on demand rather than on a one-time purchase.
This is synonymous to subscribing to a data plan that charges you for time
you spent on the internet.
FEATURES OF WEB 2.0
USER PARTICIPATION
The owner of the website is not the only one who is able to put content.
Others can place a content of their own by means of comments, reviews
and evaluation. Example: Lazada, Shopee and Amazon.
SOFTWARE AS A SERVICES
Users will subscribe to a software only when needed rather than
purchasing them. Google docs used to create and edit word processing
and spread sheet.
MASS PARTICIPATION
Diverse information sharing through universal web access. Web 2.0’s
content is based on people from various cultures.
WHAT IS
WEB 3.0
Time Frame: Ongoing (still in conceptual and developmental
stages as of my knowledge cutoff in January 2022).
Characteristics: Web 3.0, often referred to as the "Semantic
Web" or "Decentralized Web," is a vision for the future of the
web. It involves the idea of a more intelligent, context-aware,
and decentralized internet. Technologies like artificial
intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, and the Internet of
Things (IoT) play a significant role. The focus is on creating a
more personalized and efficient web experience, with improved
search capabilities, enhanced security, and increased user
control over data.
SECURITY
The user’s security is also in question since the
machine is saving his or her preferences.
VASTNESS
The World Wide Web already contains billions of web pages.
VAGUENESS
Certain words are imprecise.
LOGIC
Since machines use logic, there are certain limitations for a computer to be able
to predict what the user is referring to at a given time.
