(Picture 4:Indigenous people are awesome! They have unique traditions, cool languages, and beautiful art. They're really good
at taking care of nature, using smart ways to live sustainably. Even though they faced tough times in the past, Indigenous
communities are super strong and proud. They share a strong sense of togetherness and help each other out.)

(In some of the pictures presented in the Picture-Conflict Activity, you will notice that conflicts are present. Do
you know that there are different types of conflicts? Do you have an idea of what are these? At the end of
today’s discussion, you will know about identifying the different types of literary conflicts and determining
non-violent solutions to conflicts. Let us have another activity.)

OBJECTIVES

1. Identify types of literary conflicts

2. Apply non-violent solutions to conflicts
3. Value the Importance of Solving
Conflicts in a Non-violent Way
) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ACTIVITY 2. SOLVING MATH PROBLEMS IN A NON-VIOLENT WAY
) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) )
Read this and identify what conflict is presented. Students will be
organized into three groups, with each group tasked with addressing a
specific mathematical problem. The challenge lies in responding to
questions in diverse ways: Making a 5-line poem; Composing a chorus of
a song; and Role Playing.

Group 1: What could be the reason they had broken up?

On a rainy day, a girl broke up with her boyfriend
after being together for eight long years. They decided
to separate at the place where everything about them
began, at the same time. The boy is due north crying
and running at a rate of 5 ft/sec and the girl is
walking due east at rate of 1 ft/sec thinking if she
made the right decision. How fast are they separating
from each other 5 seconds after they started moving
to a new life without each other?

) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) )

Group 2: What problems and dangers might the residents face if

the super typhoon has already begun, and they can't leave?

Residents in a coastal town are facing a supertyphoon,

and they need to decide when to evacuate to stay safe.
If they leave too early, they might disrupt their daily
lives unnecessarily. If they wait too long, they risk being
caught in dangerous conditions. Assist the town in
creating a basic plan by using a simple equation.
Consider the typhoon's predicted arrival time, wind
speed, and the time it takes for evacuation to find the
best balance between safety and minimizing disruption.

Group 3: If Doctor Charlie learns his son did something wrong,

how will he make sure to keep his son safe?

Detective Charlie is facing an internal struggle - his son

is a suspect. To stay fair, she assigns numbers to
evidence importance (like 1 for less important, 10 for
crucial). Adding them up gives a total score. If the score
is higher than a chosen number, she thinks her son
might be involved; if not, she believes he's innocent.
How can Detective Charlie pick fair numbers to make
the best decision despite her personal feelings?

violent or non-violent? Explain.

5. If you were in the same situation,
what would you do? How would you

In an ancestral house in Vigan, three siblings quarreled

over a centuries-old heirloom—a golden salakot. The
family rift deepened as the memories of their ancestors
were overshadowed by greed, revealing the fragility of
blood ties.

(Conflicts are inevitable no matter how we try to avoid making one or being in one.
However, what we can do is to try as much as possible to practice patience and to try
to resolve them in a peaceful or non-violent way.)

taken from literary pieces. Identify the type of conflict that
the line suggests.

1.The ship sank. It made a sound like a monstrous metallic

burp. Things bubbled at the surface and then vanished.
2.“You are an idiot! Can you stay out of my sight?”
3.Utterly unprepared for this gesture, Binoy remained
frozen, unable to respond. Back home, he repeatedly
cursed himself for this minor mistake.
