ABILITY
We only use Can in present tense / could is used in the past tense.
Use
Another form to use can or could is Be able to, but is mostly used in present
perfect and past perfect after modal verbs.
Example:
How long have you been able to drive?
We hope we Will be able to come on Saturday to your party.
Everyone should be able to swim.
After other verbs:
-want
-need
- like or prepositions like, of – about
Example:
- The person who gets the job needs to be able to speak English.
- Don´t worry about not being able to understand . You Will be fine!
SPECIFIC PAST ARCHIVEMENTS
When I went to France last year, I was able to visit the Louvre.
I could Visit
In Negative sentences about specific past events: Use Could´t Or wasn´t
able to
Example:
I went to France last year, But I couldn´t remember a Word in French / I wasn´t
able to remember any words in French.
Manage to: is used for specif past archivements, Specially to show that
something was difficult.
Example:
It was hard work, But I managed to finish the Project, Homework, test etc.
