Good morning,

grade 8!
“Bring Me My
Meaning”
The First Plane
The first plane was designed by Wilbur and
Orville Wright. The day they tried to fly it; it
was unable to fly high. They knew that the
design was imperfect. The brothers were
unhappy, but they also knew that flying was
impossible. They replaced their old design
with anew one, and it proved to be a big
success.
Our lesson today is all about,
“Prefix.” This lesson will help
you to use word parts in Listen!

determining word meanings.

A lot of words that you read are made up of

roots or base words. Each base word may

have either a prefix added at the beginning
or a suffix added at the end. Prefixes and
suffixes are called affixes.
What is an affix?

Affix is an additional element

placed at the beginning or end of
a root, stem, or word, or in the What?

body of a word, to modify its

meaning.
Prefix
is a letter or letters which we
add to the beginning of a
word to make a new word
with a different meaning.
Suffix
Suffix is a group of letters added
to the end of a word to modify it,
change its meaning and alter its
grammatical function in a
sentence.
For example, the word impossible is
formed by adding the prefix im-,
which means “not.” Therefore,
impossible means “not possible.”
