    Saint Thomas Aquinas was a 13th century Catholic priest and philosopher known as the Angelic Doctor of the Church. He studied at the University of Naples where he was introduced to Aristotle's works which greatly influenced his philosophy and theology. Aquinas' most comprehensive work was the "Summa Theologica" which represented his theology and philosophy. He believed that faith and reason could work together to understand God, with faith necessary to understand God's nature fully and reason able to lead to knowledge of God's existence and attributes. Aquinas taught that virtues like prudence, temperance, fortitude and justice were not innate but given by God and were important to ordering one's will to do what is right.
