BALANCING ECONOMIC

GROWTH AND C

SUSTAINABILITY
By Arsh, Adhrit, Keyaan
What is meant by economic growth?
• When we think about economic growth, we find that growth is the primary economic goal of many
countries. Economic growth refers to the increase in the production and consumption of goods and
services within an economy over a certain period of time. It is typically measured by the growth rate of a
country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – the total value of all goods and services produced within a
country's borders.
A growing economy benefits individuals and businesses by
creating more job opportunities, higher wages, and increased
consumer spending. It also generates tax revenues for
governments, which can be utilized for public infrastructure,
education, healthcare, and social welfare programs.
However, it is important to note that economic growth should
not be pursued at the expense of sustainability and long-term
well-being.
Sustainability
• Sustainability means meeting the needs of today without
preventing future generations from meeting their own
needs. This includes protecting the environment, being
socially responsible, and maintaining economic stability.
Achieving this balance requires a comprehensive
approach that considers how these areas are connected.
Sustainability extends beyond environmental
considerations. It encompasses social and economic
dimensions as well. Achieving true sustainability
involves promoting social equity, addressing economic
disparities, and ensuring fair access to resources like food
and water.
What is meant by balancing them?
Economic growth and sustainability are closely connected.
While economic growth can create jobs and improve living
standards, it can also harm the environment and society if not
regulated properly. It's important to remember that economic
growth is heavily dependent on natural resources like fossil
fuels, minerals, and water.

SUSTAINABILITY
Importance of balancing them.
Many countries view economic growth as their primary goal. However, we must also consider
the impact of such growth on our environment and society, as well as ensuring its long-term
sustainability. Achieving a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability
is crucial, and sustainable economic development is an essential concept in today's world. This
balance is important for various reasons.
To reduce the negative impacts of economic growth on our planet,
we can use sustainable practices. This includes decreasing carbon
emissions, conserving resources, and promoting renewable energy
sources. Sustainable development also leads to social benefits. For
instance, it creates job opportunities in green industries and
promotes healthier living conditions for communities. It also
encourages innovation and responsible consumption patterns that
help preserve natural resources for future generations. By finding a
balance between economic growth and sustainability, we can
create a better world for everyone.
