IMPROVING WATER QUALITY

BEST PRACTICE OF WATER QUALITY MANAGEMENT

 Communicate the Organization's Business Goals/Strategies and Mission / Vision to
the ground team.
 Set up a Specialised team to test and monitor the basic parameters for water quality
( like Residual Chlorine, TDS, TSS, Turbidity, Ammonia, pH, Total Hardness,
Boron Concentration, Coliform Bacteria, Fluoride Concentration for desalinated
water etc) at key locations on a routine basis and have the data documented for
records.
 Use modern technology to monitor the key parameters at pumping stations /
network locations (for eg use on instruments / on line analyzers ) at a central control
room.
 Improve Reliability of the water supply equipment and network piping.
 Set Key Performance Indicators and targets for employees and contractors to
evaluate performance.

PROPOSAL TO IMPROVE EXISTING WATER QUALITY – SHORT TERM
 Have the Water quality randomly tested at Third party or approved Laboratories for
compliance to the APSR and Oman Standards and to compare to the existing
laboratory test results.
 Enter a consensus with the waste water division and utilise the expertise of the
available laboratory facilities at near by locations to monitor the basic water quality
on a daily basis.
 Identify short comings in system operation/ process control and operational
procedures and have established guidelines/ Approved SOP available at site
locations.
 Train the existing manpower on the use of new technology in water sector and its
possibility of implementation.
IMPROVING WATER QUALITY
PROPOSAL TO IMPROVE EXISTING WATER QUALITY – LONG TERM
 Develop an in-house testing facility with skilled national workforce to monitor the
key parameters on a daily basis.
 Increase the quality and quantity of the workforce with emphasis on training and
skill set development.
 Identify new technology to reduce Operating costs like installing in line
instruments/ Analyzers
 Develop project requirement in line with the concerned Engineers to modify or
rehabilitate system performance / reliability.
