GOKULESHWAR TEMPLE CHARTHANA, PARBHANI STEPWELL

• This temple was built in Yadava period in the 13th century .


• The stepwell is at NE direction of the temple.
• This temple is built at a higher plinth.
• There is a Math at the south of the temple.
• The stepwell has main entrance through south and north and
also has entry through west.
• This stepwell has Mandapas on all the 4 sides. It is 22.5X32.25 m.
• The columns of the mandapa on the North side are destroyed
which is why there is no mandapa on that side.
• There are 24 columns in total. There are 27 niches on all 4 sides.
• To the east and west of the stepwell, there are rooms
• The dimensions of the steps of the 3 staircases are
• 25cm width X 25cm height.
• The kunds present at the side of the protection wall is carved
itself out of stone. The depth is more then 2 m.
• The width of the steps is 11.6 and has 3 stages of 1 metre each. Locals collecting water their
for daily use
• The second platform is 51 cm in width and on the third platform
there is Mandapa.
• It is unique that the total depth measuring from Mandapa is 3m.
• Transformation is seen in the steps to the west of the step well. Hemadpanti style niches and columns
MEENAKSHI TEMPLE, MADHURAI

• The name Meenakshi can be split into “Meen,”


meaning Fish, and “Akshi,” meaning Eyes.
• Dedicated to Parvati and lord Shiva.

intersect at the place where the shrine of the principal deity(Siva )

• The statues of goddesses Meenakshi and Lord Sundareshwar


are kept on the Pedestal of the float.
• The water collected by the rain water harvesting system
installed in the temple drains to the Golden Lotus tank
• Gathering of rainwater from the roof and to help reduce the
noise from outside so that it's easier to hear inside.
