The researchers chose this title because every province in the region understood what the
word “kunú” is. Aside from that, according to the content of this study, all of these creatures
and tales are “kunú-kuno” of the elders and forefathers that have been passed down to every
next generation of the family. The researchers believed that Kunú is catchy and can create
curiosity to the readers as they encounter the word.
PURPOSE

Kunú

To instill to the minds of the next generation the existing mythology of the region. To
produce such a masterpiece that could bring a dying belief and tradition back into life but in
a more modernized way.
OBJECTIVES
GENERAL OBJECTIVES

• The general objective of the study is to create an animated artbook in the form of
ebook entitled Kunú.

THEORETICAL
FRAMEWORK
METHODOLOGY
PLANNING

The researchers conceived this study by brainstorming and pitching different ideas. Upon
collecting ideas, notions, and concepts with the group, the researchers were able to fuse
creativity and interactivity together. This ebook is also inspired by various books, journals,
and artbooks of famous mythology related authors, studios, games, and films. The title of
this study was also devised by thorough research, asking opinions, and being agreed by the
majority of the researchers.
DATA GATHERING
PROCEDURE

The researchers of this study collected its information by gathering data online due to
pandemic and restricted physical contact with people who are prospects for first-hand
sources of information. The collecting of data is primarily about the Western Visayan
mythology and folktales specifically on the six provinces namely, Aklan, Antique, Negros
Occidental, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo. The researchers also dive into several reliable
websites, e-libraries, and available physical books at home to explore and acquire adequate
ideas about the creatures’ appearances, assets, and other essential details and traits about
them according to their origin.
ANALYSIS

After gathering the necessary information for the animated ebook, the researchers
incorporate the collected data to assist them in conceptualizing the content of Kunú. Given
this fact, it includes the process of producing drafts, thumbnail sketches, concept arts, and
mood boards needed for the environment and character designs. Furthermore, the
researchers utilize the data gathered to formulate the necessary details and information for
each character or creature featured in the animated ebook plus the texts and stories.
DESIGN AND
CONCEPTUALIZATION

The researchers stimulated the design and the content of the ebook such as the layout,
concept, descriptions, and character designs according to their origin in the areas of Western
Visayas.

In writing the articles, the assigned researchers gathered all the necessary data and
information from an ebook, or physical book available from each of the members or from
the internet, and compiled it to be proceeded to the writer. The head writer read all the
references gathered by the researchers and revised those from scratch to be able to give
fresh context and easy understanding to the artists to conceptualize and visualize the
creatures.
DESIGN AND
CONCEPTUALIZATION

The main artist did mostly the finalization of sketches and rendering of the photo. The
cleanup artist finalized the drafts and sketches, while the other assistant artists proceeded
with the making of the story illustration. In the process of creating and rendering
backgrounds, environment, and character designs, the main artists already separated the
layers for animation purposes.
DEVELOPMENT AND
PRODUCTION

The thumbnail sketches and moodboard were created based on the data gathered by the
researchers including the characteristics, habitat, description, and nature of the mythological
creatures that were featured in the ebook.

The articles and descriptions for the creatures were written and finalized according to the
data gathered and made sure to incorporate the things including the origin, habitat, and
characteristics and other important facts of the creatures to be featured.
DEVELOPMENT AND
PRODUCTION

Rigging and frame-by-frame are the primary processes to create motion in animating the rendered
outputs. This is done by software Toon Boom Harmony.

In adding sound effects and background tracks in every clip, the sound effects and background
music are all from websites that provide royalty free and no copyright tracks. This will set the
atmosphere and give the feels to the readers as if they are encountering the creatures.

Every page that contains layout and articles are being compiled into a software called Flip PDF to
make the ebook.
IMPLEMENTATION

The researchers post-processed the rendered images along with the drafts and
audio to further show the process from scratch. The process includes the
following:

a. Cleaning up the rough sketches of the drafts to be added on the latter part of the
ebook.

b. Color correction of the images to properly set up the appropriate mood for a
particular scene.
IMPLEMENTATION

c. Checking whether the rendered images follow an ideal composition that looks
decent.

d. Finalization of images and texts, compiling and reviewing the animated clips.
After the post processing, the researchers published the finalized ebook and
compiled them for e-book binding.
REVIEW

The researchers checked the final edit of the contents for any revisions. Then test the output
for errors to be fixed and improved. Once it was all set, the researchers created a survey
form to gather the feedback of the respondents selected and the panelists.

The researchers gathered participants composed of students as well as those who study in
digital arts, and mythology fans ranging from 12-25 years old and a survey form was
provided through Google forms to collect the comments and feedbacks of the participants.

origin, physical features, fun facts, and other chronicles about the creatures. On the latter
part, drafts, sketches and thumbnails are included plus the sites and references, and about
the authors.
SUMMARY

Different softwares are used in order to come up with this animated artbook. Adobe
Photoshop and Procreate are the softwares used in creating the illustrations and sketches.
While Adobe Indesign for the layouting, Toonboom Harmony for animating, and Adobe
Premiere for the sound effects. Lastly, in order to achieve the simulation of creating an
ebook, Flip PDF software is used.
SUMMARY

Upon completion of the ebook, the researchers set the demographic according to the
audience targeted by this ebook. Those were the students, digital artists, mythology fans,
and residents of Western Visayas.
province. These are associated with short descriptions of the origin, physical features, fun
facts, and other chronicles about the creatures. On the latter part, drafts, sketches and
thumbnails are included plus the sites and references, and about the authors.
CONCLUSION
CONCLUSION

The researchers were successful in meeting the objectives specified at the start of the study.
The researchers were able to create an animated artbook based on Western Visayan
Folktales that features the mythical creatures and stories of each of the provinces in the
region. And, entertain and give the readers effective tidings and context with regards to
these mythical creatures and stories.
CONCLUSION

With accordance to the number of creatures to be included in this ebook, the researchers are
able to meet the specific number set, yet, exceed the number of pages that it is supposed to
produce. The researchers also met the standard that they aim in creating the illustrations,
while delivering enough satisfactory quality in the idle animation for engagement and
entertainment but not too distracting. It is also noted and appended the changes that the
panelists and advisers suggested for the improvement of this study.
RECOMMENDATIONS
RECOMMENDATIONS

Based on the respondents’ feedback, the ebook has potential to reach

greater heights; it just needs a tad bit more tinkering specially the story

side.
