Lokah Samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu

 "let all the people in the world be happy"

 (Lokah has two meanings in Sanskrit, one: people; and the other: world).
 In Prashanthi Nilayam-chanted 3 times after bhajans
origin

 Svasti prajabhya pari palayantham

 Nyayeana margena mahim maheesah
go brahmanebhya shubamsthu nityam
 lokahsamasthasukhinobhavanthu

 May there be well being to the people;

May the kings rule the earth along the right path;
May the cattle and the Brahmins have well being forever;
May all the beings in all the worlds become happy;
Peace, peace and peace be everywhere!

All are connected
 No true or lasting happiness can come from causing unhappiness to others.
 If we say we want every being to be happy and free, then we have to
question everything that we do-how we live, how we eat, what we buy, how
we speak, and even how we think.
 It takes us from the egoic, little self, and its limited world view, and radiates
from us global wellbeing.
 It is a reminder we are a part of the universe and can positively impact all of
creation.
 Often said at the end of yoga practices, its an invocation for personal and
collective peace.
 “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” may be the closest
Western equivalent. Yet, the impact of this ancient mantra is far grander than
simple human kindness.
While chanting Om lokahsamastahsukhinobhavantu next time, let us try to feel deeply for all living beings, and make a resolve to live in this selfless spirit.
Genesis of Maha mantra

 On the 31st August, 2008, in the bhajan hall in

Prasanthi Nilayam, in presence of a small congregation
of former students, it was an easy transition for the
Supreme Lord Of The Universe, transmuting an already
established Vedic Universal Mantra into a new one…
and in that epochal moment birthed the revised
Universal Maha Mantra, “Samastha Lokah Sukhino
Bhavantu“…meaning “May All The Beings In All The
Worlds Be Happy And Peaceful”.
Samastha Lokah Sukhino Bhavanthu
 Samasta- All
 Lokah- Worlds
 Sukhino Bhavantu-be happy
Why this shift?

 broader in outlook
 all- embracing expansion, covers anything and everything, most unconditionally,
rightfully endorsing the legacy of Sri Sathya Sai, that being Love
 is an expression of the universal spirit that we find therein
 Mantra beyond all other Mantras.. as it is completely selfless and cosmically vast
 panacea for all universal and cosmic maladies
 Dasara Divine discourse in 2009, Bhagawan spoke thus:
 God illumines the entire universe as the Atma Tatwa immanent in all the
living beings and objects. Even though God may appear to be involved in so
many activities in the world, it is verily for the pleasure of His devotees. He
has no desire of His own. He has only one desire – Samastha Lokah Sukhino
Bhavantu!

 The Supreme Lord, created humans, the highest of beings with reference to
conscious expansion, in His own image…and
 thus, does want humans to raise to His level of vastness…expansion…
becoming That…His True Self.
 Mantra is Universal Seva for each and every Jeeva
 Care for life, Concern for nature, Reverence for all beings the Cosmos
 Re-infuses a long sought harmony

 Embraces the five elements, and the five human values

 Beyond religion, caste, colour, creed, Country, planet, space and time,

 Selfless and true, develop universal love

 While chanting this mantra next time, let us try to feel deeply for all living
beings, and make a resolve to live in this selfless spirit.
