Understand these terms
before using any free images:
⸙Creative Commons
⸙ public domain
⸙ royalty-free
What is Creative
Commons?
Creative Commons is a nonprofit
organization that enables the sharing and
use of creativity and knowledge through free
legal tools. There are various types of
Creative Commons licenses that range from
allowing any type of use with no attribution
to allowing only certain uses and no
changes.
What is public domain?
The term “public domain” refers to
creative materials that are not protected
by intellectual property laws such as
copyright, trademark, or patent laws.
Finding something on the internet
does not mean it is in the public
domain.
What is royalty-free?
Royalty-free means that once you purchase
or license a piece of media, you can use it without
having to pay additional royalties or fees every
time you use it. It’s a one-time payment that gives
you the freedom to use the media however you
want, as long as you follow any guidelines or
restrictions that come with it.
The creator of any music, video, or image is
automatically the owner of it. They don't even
need to register their copyright to gain legal
ownership
