Paul McCartney

WHO IS PAUL MCCARTNEY?

Sir James Paul McCartney (born 18 June 1942),in

Liverpool, is an English singer, songwriter and musician
who gained worldwide fame with the Beatles, for whom
he played bass guitar and shared primary songwriting
and lead vocal duties with John Lennon. McCartney is
known for his melodic approach to bass-playing,
versatile and wide tenor vocal range, and musical
eclecticism.
HIS CAREER

The Quarrymen
In 1957 ,McCartney met John Lennon and his band, the Quarrymen.
The Quarrymen played a mix of rock and roll and skiffle, a type of
popular music with jazz, blues and folk influences. Soon afterwards,
the members of the band invited McCartney to join as a rhythm
guitarist. Harrison joined in 1958 as lead guitarist, followed by
Lennon's art school friend Stuart Sutcliffe on bass, in 1960. They
adopted the name the Beatles in August 1960.
HIS CAREER

The Beatles
When Lennon’s mother was killed by a speeding police car, McCartney,
with his own mother’s death, was able to empathize with him, creating a
bond that became the basis of their close friendship. McCartney and
Lennon quickly established themselves as songwriters for the group, and,
by the time the Beatles signed with EMI-Parlophone in 1962. McCartney
was responsible for many of the Beatles’ harder rock songs, such as “Lady
Madonna”(1970), “Back in the USSR”(1968) and “Hey Jude” (1968).
HIS CAREER

Wings
The Beatles ceased playing live shows in 1966, after their breakup in
1970. In 1971, Wings was formed ,which was a British-American rock
band that toured the world and became the best-selling pop act of the
1970s, with an astonishing 27 U.S. Top 40 hits (beating Elton John’s
25) and five consecutive number one albums, including the highly
acclaimed Band on the Run (1973) and Wings at the Speed of Sound
(1976).
HIS CAREER

Solo career
After the group disbanded in 1981, McCartney started a prolonged solo
career. In 1982, he tried unsuccessfully to get the rights to his songs written
during his time with The Beatles, which were later acquired by singer
Michael Jackson.

In the 1980s he recorded new albums and some songs with well-known
singers, such as Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, and in the following
decade he diversified his musical interests, including classical music.
James Jamerson (bassist on most of the Motown Records)

BASS GUITAR

Best known for primarily using a plectrum or pick, McCartney

occasionally plays fingerstyle. He was strongly influenced by
Motown artists, in particular James Jamerson, whom McCartney Stanley Clarke Sting

called a hero for his melodic style, and also Brian Wilson (co-
founder of the Beach Boys). Another favourite bassist of his is
Stanley Clarke. McCartney's skill as a bass player has been
recognised by bassists such as Sting.
WHY I ADMIRE HIM?
I admire him because I really like his music and because he can play a
lot of instruments and he plays them very well being left-handed.
