Welcome to the exciting

world of Grade 1 Math! In
this book, we'll explore the
wonders of numbers,
addition, and more. Get
ready for a fun-filled
journey into the world of
mathematics!
Lesson 1: Addition ➕
In Lesson 1, we will start our math adventure by learning about
addition. Addition is like combining or putting things together.
Let's dive into our first example.
• Numbers: Addition involves working with numbers. These numbers can represent
quantities of objects, measurements, or any other numeric values.
• Terms: In an addition problem, the numbers being added are called "terms." For
example, in the addition problem 3+4 3+4, the numbers 3 and 4 are the terms.
• Addends: The individual numbers being added are also called "addends." In the
example 3+4 3+4, 3 and 4 are the addends.
• Sum: The result of an addition operation is called the "sum." In the example 3+4=7
3+4=7, 7 is the sum.
• Order: Addition is commutative, which means the order of the addends does not affect
the sum. For instance, 3+4 3+4 is the same as 4+3 4+3, and both equal 7.
• Visual Representation: Addition can be visually represented using objects, drawings, or
number lines. This is particularly helpful for young learners who are just starting to
grasp the concept. For example, if you have three apples and then add four more, you
can visually represent this as a group of seven apples.
• Symbolic Representation: In addition to visual representations, addition is also
represented symbolically using the "+" sign. The expression 3+4 3+4 is read as "3 plus
4" and means the same as adding three and four together.
Imagine Team A playing a
soccer match. In the first half,
they scored 5 goals. In the
second half, they scored 2 more
goals. To find out how many
goals they scored in total, we
can use addition! ⚽
Let solve it
together 😀

5 (first half)+ 2 (second half) =_______

How many did they score
Let count how many football balls they scored: ⚽
Now, let's add the numbers:

5+2=7
So, Team A scored a total of 7 goals ⚽ in
the soccer match! Great job!

Continents Of The
World
science
What continents are ?

• A continent is one of several very large landmasses of the world.

Generally identified by convention rather than any strict criteria, up to
seven regions are commonly regarded as continents. Ordered from largest
in size to smallest, they are: Asia, Africa, North America, South America,
Antarctica, Europe and Australia.
• Countries are found within continents e.g. Egypt is a country in the
continent of Africa.
Location Of The Continents
Africa

Africa is the world's second

largest and second most-
populous continent. At about
30.3 million km² including
adjacent islands, it covers 6%
of Earth's total surface area
and 20% of its total land area
Antarctica
Antarctica, the southernmost
continent and site of the South
Pole, is a virtually
uninhabited, ice-covered
landmass.
Area: 14 million km²
Population density:
0.00008/km2 (0.0002/sq mi)
Population: 1,106
Largest cities: Research
stations in Antarctica
Asia

Asia is Earth's largest and

most populous continent,
located primarily in the
Eastern and Northern
Hemispheres.
Area: 44.58 million km²
Population: 4.436 billion
(2016)
Australia

Australia, sometimes known

by the names Sahul,
Australinea or Meganesia, to
distinguish it from the country
of Australia. Area:
8,600,000 km2 (3,300,000 sq
mi)
Europe
Europe is a continent located
entirely in the Northern
Hemisphere and mostly in the
Eastern Hemisphere.
Area: 10,180,000 km2
(3,930,000 sq mi). It is
bordered by the Arctic Ocean
to the north, the Atlantic
Ocean to the west, and the
Mediterranean Sea to the
south.
North America
North America is a continent
entirely within the Northern
Hemisphere and almost all
within the Western
Hemisphere. North America
covers an area of about
24,709,000 square kilometers
(9,540,000 square miles).
Population: 579,024,000
(2016)
South America
South America is a continent
Located in the Western
Hemisphere, mostly in the
Southern Hemisphere, with a
relatively small portion in the
Northern Hemisphere.
Bordered on the west by the
Pacific Ocean and on the north
and east by the Atlantic Ocean;
N. America and the Caribbean
Sea lie to the northwest.
