Developing Worship
and Devotional Patters
What is Devotion?
In the Catholic tradition, devotions
are popular prayers, rituals and
pious practices used by individuals
or groups to worship God or
venerate Mary and the saints.
Throughout our day we have moments
that we often forget to praise God. We
forget that He is always with us and
always protecting us. We do not always
give him the praise that He deserves. Here
are some things to do throughout the day
to spend your time more intentionally with
God.
1. Start Your Day With Him
With the advancement in technology, the majority of
us have fallen into the routine of checking our
phones from the moment that we open our eyes. If
you attempt to break this habit and instead use your
time by spending it with God, you will grow your
relationship with Him. Read your Bible for a few
minutes and listen to worship music and thank Him
for giving you another day to live.
2. Pray Intentionally
It is easy to just say a quick
meaningless prayer when you feel like
it is something that you have to do. If
you feel like prayer is an obligation, it
will become a chore and will not be
something you enjoy or truly mean.
3. Write Down Things You Are Thankful For

Instead of just listing things in your

head that you are thankful for, write
them down. Put this list where you can
see it and where it will be a constant
reminder of the good things that God
has given you in your life.
4. Notice Your Complaints and Turn Them Into Praise

As humans, we complain a lot. We complain

about any small inconvenience and anything
that gets in our way in the slightest. If you are
more intentional and notice when you are
complaining, take a second to stop and try to
reverse that complaint and turn it into a praise,
something that you are thankful for.
5. Enjoy God’s Creation
Whenever you are outside, take the
time to notice the beautiful scenery
outdoors. Notice God’s creation
and everything He has made. He
made the earth for us to live on.
6. Love Others
Whenever we are upset with other
people, it is hard to love them. Make an
intentional effort to love others in every
situation and to shine God’s light upon
them.
7. Love Yourself
In our world today, self-love has become
something that almost everyone seems to
struggle with. As college students we have
a difficult time taking care of our health
both physically and mentally.
