DIGITAL DIVIDE
— A term that refers to the gap between demographics and
regions that have access to modern information and
communications technology (ICT), and those that don't or
have restricted access. This technology can include the
telephone, television, personal computers and internet
connectivity.
COMPUTER ADDICTION
— A form of behavioral addiction that can be described as the
excessive or compulsive use of the computer, which persists
despite serious negative consequences for personal, social, or
occupational function.
TYPES OF COMPUTER ADDICTION
Too much online surfing leads to decreased productivity at work and fewer interactions
Information overload
with family members.
Excessive time spent in online activities such as gaming, trading of stocks, gambling and

even auctions often leads to overspending and problems at work.
Cybersex Addiction Too much surfing of porn sites often affects real-life relationships.

SYMPTOMS OF COMPUTER ADDICTION
• Emotional Symptoms
— Feelings of guilt, Anxiety, Depression, Dishonesty, Euphoric
feelings when in front of the computer, Unable to keep schedules,
No sense of time, Isolation, Defensiveness, Avoiding doing work,
and Agitation
• Physical Symptoms
— Backache, Headaches, Weight gain or loss, Disturbances in sleep,
Carpal tunnel syndrome, and Blurred or strained vision
Computer Addiction can be prevented through:
Harassment - this is a very dangerous form of cyberbullying. It is also sustained, constant and intentional form of bullying

Outing - also known as doxing, is the act of revealing sensitive or personal information about someone without their consent to

cause them harm or humiliation.
Trickery - is similar to outing, with an added element of deception. In these situations, the bully will befriend their target and lull

them into a false sense of security.
Cyberstalking - is a technologically-based "attack" on one person who has been targeted specifically for that attack for reasons of

anger, revenge or control.

Fraping - is a combination of the words “Facebook” and “rape.” No longer limited to Facebook alone, fraping occurs when a

bully gains control of someone’s social media account and posts content intended to humiliate or embarrass the victim.
Masquerading - is similar to fraping. However, instead of assuming control of another person’s account, masquerading is the act

of creating a fake online profile or identity and impersonating someone without their consent.
Dissing - refers to the act of a bully spreading cruel information about their target through public posts or private messages to

either ruin their reputation or relationships with other people.
Trolling - when a person intentionally tries to incite negative reactions by posting inflammatory or attacking comments online,

such as in a Reddit thread or a social media group.
Flaming - similar to trolling, flaming (or roasting) is a more personal and direct attack on an individual, typically done in a social
10 setting, such as a social media group or chat forum. Flaming is typically characterized by using profane language and insulting
comments with the intent of intimidating the victim.
What are the effects of Cyberbullying?
When bullying happens online it can feel as if you’re being attacked everywhere, even
inside your own home. It can
seem like there’s no escape. The effects can last a long time and affect a person in many
ways:
