1. Bethan Davies et al (April 2022) –Manchester UK
Title: Novel Portable Robot Used to Inspect Nuclear Infrastructure

A robot called Lyra has been employed to check a ventilation duct in

the redundant nuclear laboratories at Dounreay and chart the
radioactive materials. Lyra was built as an inexpensive robot,
containing five radiation detectors, two cameras, a laser scanner for
positioning, lights and a manipulator arm that took swab samples of
the radioactive contamination from the floor or wall of the duct. The
radiation sensing system was engineered to be able to quantify X-Ray,
beta, gammas and neutrons radiations and a 5 DOF manipulator was
attached to allow it to gather swabs for additional radiological
examination at the site laboratories.

Title: A novel inspection robot for nuclear station steam
generator secondary side with self‑localization

This paper describes one robot system with self-localization that

could help users in inspecting tubes and locating the robot
vehicle inside the steam generator. Experiments are designed to
test the robot system. Results show that this system works stably,
and the localization is accurate and effective.
This robot is just used for inspection of steam generator with a
wired camera.
They have done path planning using kinematics model

Title: Design the robot as security system in the home

Night vision camera with ultrasonic sensor. The entire facility is

designed to allow involvement exchange system control unit to
manage the movement of universal robot. Thus, the method of
control is changed, and the mechanical part is unchanged. This
solution allows to continuously apply new kinds of management
mode

1. Draft National Strategy on Robotics July 2023

Challenges in India: Inadequate Skilled Human Resources, Heavy Reliance on Imports, HIGH cost, technology limitation.
Absence of multidisciplinary collaboration, Lack of Awareness in robotics
Focus areas for robotic automation in India:
a. Manufacturing
b. Healthcare
c. Agriculture
d. National Security: Use cases in Mine Detection, Surveillance in Key area, remotely operated vehicles, combat robots
According to the draft, we are adapting Robotic Automation for National Security by making a Robot for Security and
Critical Surveillance in Nuclear power plants
Report Survey

2. Public Dose received in vicinity of nuclear power plants

Radiation exposure to workers is important, given few values in terms of mSv. The steps involved are “Planning and
preparedness for unusual events.” And maintain ones such as Exclusion Zone, sterilized zone and emergency planning
zone
Literature & Report Conclusion

1. There are robots to detection and inspection inside of the

Nuclear power plants which uses high cost components.
2. There is a radiation monitoring for the workers and locals
living in the vicinity of any nuclear power plant
3. Nuclear power plants have a very big area to cover
outside the main plant which needs to be divided into
zones.
4. There is no proper monitoring done for the outer area
zones.
5. According to the draft, we are adapting Robotic
Automation for National Security by making a Robot for
Security and Critical Surveillance in Nuclear power plants
Problem Identification

1. No Proper security and inspection of outer area of nuclear

power plants (NPP)
2. There is no constant monitoring of the zones in NPP
3. There is no regular monitoring of the radiation leaks in
the zones
4. There is no frequent updating of the types of zones in case
of emergency
5. Cost of manpower to monitor the outer area of NPP is
High
Objectives:

1. To Design and Develop a Camouflaged & Low cost Security and Critical radiation inspection Robot
2. Implement low cost security alarm and alert indication in terms of security breach
3. Implement a low cost radiation counter and map the critical ones of NPP
4. Mechanical Simulation & Control system analysis of the entire robotics system
