• Philosophy is often defined as a love for
widom and wisdom means “ ATTAINING THE
TRUTH”
• The word PHILOSOPY came from greek word.

• SOPHIA-means wisdom or knowledge

 he was a Greek philosopher who taught
emphasizing the immortality of the soul and
reincarnation. He taught that the concept of
"number" cleansed the mind and allowed the
understanding of reality.

of man . man is the basis of existence in the world,
everything on earth can only achieve its meaning and

clearly and adequately present his or her idea.

influences a person’s view of life,challenges, and

Reflection requires a person to be willing to examine one’s


thoughts,feelings ,action and to learn more about one’s life and experiences

to attempt to learn more about their fundamental nature and essence

engaging in philosophical reflection leads to the development of benefical


skills that individuals can apply in everyday situations

LOVE (Greek word is Eros) cannotes intimacy. to describe the persons
who are in love,

PHILEIN- desire to search the beloved fuelled by strong emotions

WISDOM (Greek word is sophia) means an insight, skills, or


intelligence.

causes as known by natural reason alone.

pursuits of knowledge based on facts and demonstration.

• ALL THINGS that exist are the material object of philosophy.


Everything that is seen and unseen,visible or invisible,actual or
potential.
The branches of Philosophy
LOGIC- Greek word is "logos" the science of correct reasoning

PHILOSOPHY OF HUMAN PERSON- Greek word is ("presporon"


which means person) the science of the study of man in relation to his
own destiny,God and his fellowmen.

COSMOLOGY- Greek word is komos "world" and logia which means


"study of"- the study of inaminate objects. Based on study these
lifeless beings contribute to man's search for meaning
METAPHYSICS- Greek word is "meta” means beyond ,upon or after,
and "physika which means physics" is the science of being

 ETHICS- Greek word is "ethikos" which means custom or character


the science of morality of human act, morality means the quality of an
action whether it is right or wrong

AESTHETICS- Greek word is “aisthetikos” which means sensitive,


sentient, pertaining to sense perception, the science of art and beauty

PSYCHOLOGY- Greek word is "psyche" means, Breath,soul or spirit and


"logos" means study the science of human behavior
EPISTEMOLOGY - Greek word is "episteme" which means
knowledge it is the science of theory of knowledge

SOCIAL PHILOSOPHY- Greek word is "koino-nikos" means


group of associate it is a science of principle governing human
relations.

THEODICY- Greek word is "Theo's" which means God and


"dike" the study science of the study of God. It studies about
proving God existence through the use of the human reason.
TWO KINDS OF WISDOM.

 DIVINE WISDOM- Different from the wisdom of man, the divine


wisdom is a gift from God

HUMAN WISDOM- is the quality of having an experience,


knowledge and good judgement the quality of being wise in
philosophy we define wisdom as a right application of
knowledge.
TO DISTINGUISH WISDOM FROM
KNOWLEDGE
knowledge is something we gain from experience

WISDOM is deeper than knowledge it means after gaining something


from experience a correct and right application of this knowledge
must be done wisdom is the mother of morality

HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY - the Philosophy examination of the


development of ideas.
METHOD OF PHILOSOPHIZING
Logical Analysis- this approach is multifaceted During an argument to
get practice at identifying solid arguments.

Conceptual Analysis- This is most useful when responding to the work


of those who are not professional philosophers.

Deconstruction- Very useful in specific situations. Allows a thinker to


challege their own, cultural perception.

Phenomenology- Sort of self-directed deconstruction.


Public Intellectual- Improve our world by making it a better informed and
more educated one.

Philosophy as Diologue- The usefulness of this approach is that it brings a


philosopher into contact with many ideas in a short period of time.

Comparative-Descriptive Approach- This approach does not really generate


any new knowledge and thought it is a fast-track to understanding.

Comparative Constructive- This is a very useful method in creating new


ideas, which are extremely important to process of truth seeking.

 Integrating Philosophy Into Other Experiences- hilosophy to inform our


every day decisions regarding ethics, interactions with others.
ENGAGE IN A PHILOSOPHICAL
ACTIVITY
REASON- enables a person to reflect on or examine the
underlying meaning or causes of things or realities.

Experience- To provides a person with initial data so that


he/she would be able to speak his/her subsequent reflection
or examination.
 Philosophy is a reflection on human experiences, fostering
wonder and awe. It connects to human experience, the
existence of everything around us, and personal experiences.
Philosophy is innate to every individual, giving birth to
knowledge and wisdom. a philosopher is a lover of wisdom,
open to change and discovery, and a lover of truth, meaning,
and transcendence. They possess a beautiful mind and
continue to question and question the world around them.
