    CONTINUOUS
    • The middle of the action – start and finish unknown or unimportant

    • Time given is in the middle of the action, start is before this

    • I was eating dinner at 18:00 (started 17:45)


    • I am learning English today (started 2 weeks ago)
    • I will be working at 11:00 tomorrow (will start at 09:00)
    PERFECT
    • Connected to the past

    • Time given is end time or ‘how long’

    • I had studied for 2 years before I passed the exam (started before the
    past exam, how long until exam)
    • I have worked here for 5 years (started in past, how long until now)
    • I will have completed my degree in May (started a few years ago, how
    long until finish in future)
