ABSTRACT

Drunk driving has long been a severe problem for public safety due to the
large number of road accidents around the world. To address this issue,
numerous methods for detecting drunk drivers and accidents have been
developed. The objective of this paper is to propose a low-cost automated
system for detecting drunk drivers and turning off the ignition system to
prohibit the driver from operating the vehicle. Our proposed prototype
consists of multiple sensors and a microcontroller along with GPS and
WCDMA for simultaneous communication. The sensors monitor the vehicle
in real-time to detect any kind of catastrophe, if anything gets detected the
user gets a notification and alert through the Mobile app and text message.
The purpose of this research is to develop ongoing initiatives to reduce
accidents with the goal of adopting system advancements in the real world to
ensure road safety.

[1] Intelligent Road Safety: IoT-enabled Drunk Driving and Accident Detection
System
• Accidents caused by drunk drivers, A severe accident can be
identified by tracking the data from the microcontroller and different
sensors used in this system.
• Any vehicle that is detected to have crashed will also receive a brief
notification from the device.
• We used a water sensor to detect water level where the pressure on
the sensor’s front surface is translated into the water level height
according to the water level sensor’s operating principle when the
sensor is immersed into the liquid to be measured at a specific depth.
• Temperature and Humidity sensor has been utilized to identify a
vehicle fire .Using both sensors together, the system is able to
identify fire situations and warn the user in real time.
• The eye blink is typically the fundamental characteristic used to
assess weariness .
[2] Smart Automatic Accident Detection & Information System
• This paper consists of a few automated devices that detect
accidents and notify responsible person.
• This technology may be used to pinpoint the location of
the accident, directing medical assistance there promptly.
The system is equipped with an accelerometer, GPS, and
a GSM module for message transmission.
• Accelerometers detect abrupt changes in the magnitude,
acceleration, and speed of a vehicle's axis. Additionally, a
switch is provided to halt the transmission of a message
in the unlikely event that there is no casualty; this can
save the responsible person’s valuable time.
• The GSM module delivers an alert message to the mobile
device informing it of the accident's location.
• In addition to detecting alcoholic drivers and fires in
vehicles, this paper can also produce alerts for those
situations.
[3] IoT-based Drunk Driving Detection and Engine Locking System with Real-Tim
Location in App.
• This project aims to create a locking system for cars that prevents them from starting
without an alcohol checking device. The system will benefit from this of an already
installed Alcohol sensor.
• Our proposed prototype compressed of an Arduino UNO, SIM900, GPS/GSM Module.
• Later with the usage of SIM900 GPS/GSM module, current latitude and longitude value
are fetched and the same locations are transferred via SMS (Short Message Service) in
Blynk app.
[4] IoT Based Eye Blink Detection System

• Drivers’ drowsiness is one of the well-tested human errors, the cause of major accidents..
The basic parameter used to detect fatigue is usually the blink of an eye.
• we have created a model to monitor the abnormalities in the blinking of drivers’ eyes
using IR sensor. If any abnormality is found, the driver is alerted with a buzzer.
• Along with detecting drowsiness of car driver this project can also help in monitoring
unconscious patient at all times, when the patient comes out of a coma the buzzer rings
automatically.
[5] IoT Based Accident Detection And Tracking System With Telegram and
SMS Notifications.
• The most important factor influencing the percentage of deaths due to road accident injuries
is the time between the occurrence of the accident and the arrival of emergency responders
at the scene of the accident. Kolej Komuniti Selandar (KKSL) received the report on the
frequency of non-residence students involved in accidents outside working hours. It will
only be reported to the KKSL if their friends or family reports them. Thus, an innovative
Accident Detection and Tracking System (AD-Tracksys) is proposed using the Internet of
Things approach to overcome the problem. AD-Tracksys works to track the location of an
accident and notify a designated individual in the event of an accident. Existing products use
GSM for location tracking and notification purposes. However, it cannot detect the location
and provide notifications in real-time, sending messages through SMS. Therefore,
implementing node MCU, GSM, and IFTTT protocol in AD-Tracksys allows the system to
detect an accident and send notifications in real-time via Telegram or SMS. We tested the
system using three test cases, and as a result, we managed to prove the study’s success. In
the future, this system can be enhanced by adding alert functions of assistance services such
as clinics, police stations and fire stations.
[6] Design and Implementation of an Eye Blinking Detector System for
Automobile Accident Prevention.

• In this paper, design of an eye blinking detector system is presented which can
monitor the physical state of the driver at regular intervals during his/her driving
and, if needed, can raise an audible alarm within the vehicle to alert the driver or
initiate application of vehicle’s braking system. In case of multiple failures to raise
the alertness level of the driver, the designed system can automatically inform the
law enforcement authorities about the rogue driver on the road.
• System can help in keeping the driver awake at all times while driving and hence
facilitate in avoidance of any traffic accidents involving driver’s alertness.
[7] Drowsiness And Alcohol Detection with Engine Locking.

• At present days most accidents happening caused by drunken driving and

Drowsiness. The cause of drowsiness is continuous driving for long distances and
stress levels in working places is reduced in sleeping then it leads to sleep driving.
• To control these types of accidents, we are implementing this model, in this model
blink sensors and MQ3 alcohol sensors are used.
• The blink and alcohol sensors output will be sent to Arduino, and the vehicle will be
controlled using Arduino output. Based on the drowsiness and the alcohol level of the
driver. The sensor will sense the level of drowsy time of sleep and the alcohol sensor
defects the consumption of alcohol from the driver if it exceeds the specific value,
turn ON buzzer and lock the automobile. Then we reduce the maximum accidents by
drunken driving and drowsiness.
[8] Water-Cluster-Detecting Breath Sensor and Applications in Cars for
Detecting Drunk or Drowsy Driving.
• Developing safety measures to prevent drunk and drowsy driving is a major
technical challenge for the car industry.
• Developed a system for this that involves the water-cluster-detecting (WDC) breath
sensor. The WCD breath sensor detects breath by measuring electric currents of
positively or negatively charged water clusters in breath that are separated by using
an electric field. The WCD breath-alcohol sensor couples the WCD breath sensor
with an alcohol sensor and simultaneously detects the electrical signals of both
breath and alcohol in the breath.
• This ensures that the sample is from a person’s breath, not an artificial source.
Furthermore, the WCD breath sensor can detect breath from about 50 cm and can
also test the level of alertness of a subject sitting in the driver’s seat of a car. This is
done by measuring the point of time at which the breathing changes from conscious,
such as in pursed-lip breathing, to unconscious, such as when the driver becomes
drowsy. This is the first result that one device has been used to detect both drunk and
drowsy driving.
[9] A Cost-Effective Driver Drowsiness Recognition System.

• Road accidents, having become almost an everyday problem in the present world, cause
substantial loss of lives and property and adversely affect the economy. Driving in the
state of drowsiness is a major cause behind these accidents. Timely detection of a
driver’s drowsy condition is very important to avoid these unwanted accidents.
• This study presents a very cost-effective and robust approach to determine if the driver is
drowsy or fatigued by continually analyzing two physiological parameters – heart rate
and eye-blink rate. An effectual alert mechanism has also been incorporated in this
system. If the threshold values of the drowsiness checking parameters are exceeded, the
system detects drowsy or sleepy condition of the driver and alerts him instantly to regain
conscious state.
[10] A SMART VEHICLE FOR ACCIDENT PREVENTION USING
WIRELESS BLACKBOX AND EYEBLINK SENSING TECHNOLOGY
ALONG WITH SEAT BELT CONTROLLED IGNITION SYSTEM.
• The main aim of this project is to construct an smart vehicle system with minimizing the
Iimitations of existing methods and also enhancing the security of vehicles and human beings
and also reduces the accidental injuries.
• Smart vehicle system will entail a speed and other parameters of vehicle sensing mechanism
which automatically messages to traffic police with the details of vehicle position when a
accident occurs using the GSM/GPRS system.
• The system also contains seat belt sensor ,vehicle black box, and a eye blink sensor. This
method is an advanced version of speed detection, seat belt alarms system and it is placed in
vehicles.
• A speed sensor, seat belt sensor and various sensors which senses various parameters of the
vehicle is connected to a microcontroller which detects when the abnormal conditions occur
or any accidents occur then sends text message, using GSM technology, to a police
ambulance services and the drivers relatives. The text send to various authorities contains the
details of the vehicle and its position.
