The Role of Parents

 Parents typically play the major role

in teaching children social skills.
 Parents can directly teach children
social skills by:
 Modeling
 Role-playing
 Providing oppurtunities for their
children to rehearse and practice
new skills
 Professionals typically intervene only
when children are having substantial
social difficulty with peers.

 Children must then generalize the

skills they learn to schools and other
personal social situations.
The Role of Teachers

 School is the place where children

spend the majority of their time with
peers.

 Teacher should be alert to teasing and

bullying and be aware of children’s
status with their peers.
The Role of Teachers

 They should work and cooperate with

children’s parents to avoid humiliation,
embarrassment, and distress that befall
