INTRODUCTION

• tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, is an arc welding process that uses a non-
consumable tungsten electrode to produce the weld
• TIG is most commonly used to weld thin sections of stainless steel and non-ferrous
metals such as aluminum, magnesium, and copper alloys.
• TIG is comparatively more complex and difficult to master, and furthermore, it is
significantly slower than most other welding techniques.
TIG CONSISTS OF :
HOW DOES TIG WELDING WORK ?
• TIG (Tungsten inert gas) welding uses a tungsten electrode that produces an electric
arc between the torch and the materials. The TIG welder uses a foot pedal controlling
the arc length, one hand supplying the sacrificial rod, and the other hand aiming the
electrode at the work surface.
TIG welding is typically done using argon or carbon dioxide gas as an alternative to air because
it provides more protection from contaminants that could still be lingering in the air even after
you have cleaned off your workspace thoroughly
What is Tig Welding – Advantages
TIG welding offers many benefits over more traditional welding processes. Its use of an electric arc produces
less spatter than some other methods, which allows for better control while working with thin pieces of metal.
These pieces tend to cool faster while you are still in the process of making your weld, too.

Another advantage is that TIG welding creates little waste byproducts or particles that can contaminate the
environment or pose a safety hazard. This makes it ideal for applications where cleanliness is particularly
important, such as in food production plants and medical facilities.
TIG welding provides an advantage in the fact that you can use this technique in several different positions.
Applications
The aerospace industry is one of primary users of gas tungsten arc welding.
It is frequently employed to weld small diameter thin-wall tubing such as those used in the bycicle
industry .
Tig is often used in piping of various sizes .
