4.Introduction to FEA program
STAAD Pro V8i software
In the Field of Engineering Design, we come across many
complex problems
STAAD Pro is comprehensive and integrated FEM analysis
and design software
It is having capacity for analyzing any type of structure
exposed to static loading, dynamic response, wind, Earthquake.

5. Site Plan
6. Positioning and orientation of column and beam
 Avoid projection of columns

 Orient the column so that the depth of the column is contained in the major plane of bending or is

perpendicular to the major axis of bending

 Select the position of columns so as to reduce bending moments in beams.

 Column should be located at (or) near the corners of a building, and at the intersection of

beams/walls.

 Beams shall normally be provided under the walls or below a heavy concentrated load to avoid

these loads directly coming on slabs.

 Avoid larger spacing of beams from deflection and cracking criteria

Conclusion
 Careful selection of the structural system and sizing of various members
as per architectural requirements and at the same time without
sacrificing structural requirements.
 Complete analysis is carried out using “STADD PRO” for various
relevant Indian standards
 Tabulations and examination of the results of analysis and resizing of
members wherever necessary.
 Checking the structure for stability requirements and members for the
serviceability requirements using STADD PRO
