LABORATORY SAFETY

GENERAL LABORATORY RULES
1.Keep alert in the laboratory at all times to what you are doing and to what is being done around you. You
could be a victim of your neighbour's mistakes. Always advise them of any unsafe practices you observe. If
necessary, inform your instructor immediately. Know the location of the fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
2. Know the emergency evacuation route.
3. Students must be responsible in checking the tool/equipment after performing such experiment/s before
returning it to the laboratory attendant.
4. Do not throw garbage on the table tops such as plastics, bottles and papers. There are trash can provided
inside the laboratory for proper disposal.
5. Students who accidentally broke/damaged tools/equipment during the execution of the experiment is
suggested to replace the damage on or before the end of the semester.
6. Eating, drinking, smoking is strictly prohibited in the laboratory.
7. No unauthorized experiments are to be performed. If you are curious about trying a procedure not covered in
the experimental procedure, consult with your laboratory instructor.
8. Coats, backpacks, and others alike should not be left on the laboratory benches and stools. Place all of these
at the cabinet/locker.
9. Push back the chairs before leaving the laboratory.
11. Students under the influence of liquor shall not be allowed to enter the laboratory.
12. Warning signs and notices shall be followed.
13. Report to the instructor of laboratory attendant all defective equipment and accidents or injuries
which require immediate actions so that unnecessary delays or harmful effects can be avoided.
14. Students shall be allowed to perform maximum of two make-up experiments only provided with
sit-in card.
15. No one should work alone in the laboratory. 16. Any tools/equipment and support materials
shall not be taken out from the laboratory room without authorization.
17. Keep all the equipment that you use, clean and return it with correct manner when done.
18. Laboratory attendant are available to answer specific questions on personal safety or laboratory
experiments. The faculty members are in charge of specific laboratory class and are responsible for
enforcing the laboratory safety use.
BORROWING AND RETURNING
1.Students will ask Borrower's form from the laboratory assistant.
2. Have the form completely filled up with necessary tools/equipment that will be used
for the experiment. Be sure to include proper descriptions of tools/equipment you want
to borrow (volume, size, ohmic value and others). And have it signed by your instructor.
3. Give the form to your laboratory assistant at the counter for the release of items. Be
sure that all items are complete before leaving the counter. Please handle/carry
properly the equipment to your working area.
4. Return the equipment at the counter after the experiment. Be sure that the
laboratory assistant checks the item before you leave the counter.

Remember: Any damages/losses of tools will be charged individually or collectively to


the responsible group of the outlet good condition.
ATTIRE AND CONDUCT
1.Wear proper attire when working on electrical equipment; be sure to read carefully all
instructions. Work only on equipment/s machines when allowed ore required by the
instructor. Most often, this equipment are delicate and expensive. Always consult the
instructor or the laboratory personnel when in doubt.
2. Disconnect all the electrical connections when returning it to the laboratory assistant, for
example an alligator clips or connecting wires connected to the ammeter, voltmeter and
trainers.
3. The electricity outlets inside the laboratory are 220V. Be sure that the input voltage of
the electronic device matches with the output voltage
4. When returning the equipment, the entire set must be complete and in good condition.
