Motion is described as a

change in position. The

simplest kindof motion is
motion in a straight line and
at a constant rate..
Figure 1: Figure 2:

If you need to calculate the distance between two locations of the

car, this means you're calculating distance over time. The
calculation assumes that you're moving at a constant rate or speed
and that your movement will occur over a set period of time. If you
know these two elements, the distance traveled over that period of
time is simply a matter of multiplying the two.
Distance is the separation between
things, places, or locations. It is the
separation between positions of time
and space. How far is your home from
the school? Or how far is the church
from your home? Distance is measured
in metric units. We use meter for a
shorter distance and kilometers for a
farther distance. The length of an object
moves through its motion is called the
distance.
Do you know that we adopt
the simplified version of
metric system – the
International System of
Units? This is the reason
why our basic unit of
length is meter.
Distance = Speed x Time
• If you need to calculate the distance between two
locations while traveling, this means you're
calculating distance over time. The calculation
assumes that you're moving at a constant rate and
that your movement will occur over a set period of
time. If you know these two elements, the distance
traveled over that period of time is simply a matter
of multiplying
the two. (distance=speed×time)
Ex. # 1. A car travels at a
constant speed of two
kilometer per hour. how
far will the car travel in ten
hours?
Solution:

Distance = 2 km/hr x 10hr

=20 kilometers
A car travels at a constant
speed of two kilometer
per hour. how far will the
car travel in twenty hours?
Solution:

Distance = 2 km/hr x 20hr

=40 kilometers
A shopping cart runs a
horizontal plane at 40 meter
per second for 10 seconds.
What is the distance run by
the cart?
A shopping cart runs a
horizontal plane at 40 meter
per second for 10 seconds.
What is the distance run by
the cart?
Distance = Speed (40 meter/second) x
Time (10 second)
= 40m/s x 10 s
= 400 meters
Time
Time is measured in terms of seconds,
minutes, hours, days, or years.
If your school is nearer your home you do
not need to ride any vehicle. You just
walk. If you start walking from 6 o'clock in
the morning, arrive school at 6:30, the
time that it took you to walk the distance
is 30 minutes.
The motion of an object takes time to
occur. Moving from one place to another
happens within a period of time. This time
interval is called the elapsed time.
Your service fetched you up at 7:00
a.m. and reached school at 7:30. Your
motion which is the travel from home
to school took place between 7:00
a.m. and 7:30 a.m. The difference
between the time indicates the
elapsed time of your travel to school.
Example: Elapsed time = 7:30 a.m. -
7:00 a.m. = 30 minutes. What is the
elapsed time?
Time = Distance
Speed
Ex. # 2. How long would
it take the car to travel
two hundred meters if it
was moving at a speed
of twenty meters per
second?
Solution:
Time = D= 200 meters
S= 20 meters/sec

Answer?
Solution:
Time = 200 meters
20 meters/sec
= 10 seconds
You travel a distance of
80 kilometers at a speed
of 40km/hr. How long
was your trip?
You travel a distance of
80 kilometers at a speed
of 40km/hr. How long
was your trip?
Time = Distance (80 km)
Speed (40km/hr)
= 2 hours
Speed is indicated in the
speedometer but neither the
time nor the distance traveled
is indicated. When the terms
speed and velocity are used,
the total amout of time and
the distance traveled are not
specified.
However, the relationship
between distance, speed
and time are shown below.
If any of the three factors
are known, you can
calculate the third factor.
Speed and velocity are both
used to describe motion. But
velocity is the rate of motion
or speed in a certain
direction. So, velocity is a
more complete description
of motion.
Speed shows how fast
the motion of an object.
It shows the relationship
between distance
reached by a moving
object and the period of
time spent
Speed is usually not
constant. An increase in
speed or velocity is called
acceleration. A decrease
in speed or velocity is
called deceleration.
Ex. # 3. If a car travels at
200 meters in ten
seconds, what is the
speed of the train?
Solution:
Speed = 200 m =
10 sec

20 m/sec
