LESSON

PLANNING

WARM UP

• OBJECTIVE: To place learners in the English
lesson.
• It is NOT an activity connected with the topic.
• KEY: Establish classroom routine:
• A greeting
• A ¨Hello song¨
• Asking about the weather
• A Weather song¨
Lead in/ Link-in

• OBJECTIVE: To introcuce the theme, topic, notion, new
lexical items. To activate schemata.
• Interesting material/activity.
• Whole-group interaction is required.

• KEY: Motivating activities to foster participation. Check

that all learners are following your lead.
MEETING NEW LANGUAGE
IN CONTEXT

• OBJECTIVE: To present the language in a meaningful context.
• Remember that a song, a video, a comic strip, poems are all
considered texts.

• KEY: they must have a transcription. They should skim-read

the text first, with a purpose in mind (for example: read it
quickly and underline all the vocabulary in the text) (the
target language you introduced in the previous stage). Then,
move to comprehension activities.
NOTICING

• OBJECTIVE: To raise awareness of … (function, structure,
word order, etc). They must NOTICE the target item.

• KEY: Prepare questions carefully. You will most probably

use Spanish here. It´s OK. Use YES/NO questions. Take it
step by step. Be patient. Elicit, do not give answers.
EXPERIMENTING

• OBJECTIVE: To manipulate the target language.
• HANDS ON moment.
• KEY: From the simple to difficult, from controlled
practice to freer production. Just some excercises per
activity (5-8). Then, correct with the whole group –
use board. They need to SEE the right answer.
• KEY!!!! Elicit what they have to do, do not READ
OUT the instructions
REFLECTION

• OBJECTIVE: To reflect upon the work that has been
done. To round off the lesson.
• KEY: Clear, simple, whole-group interaction. It can
be conducted in Spanish. It can be a short activity, a
game, or just asking them ¨¿Qué aprendimos hoy?¨
and lead them to the RIGHT answer.
