Suggested Research Topics
The following is a listing of some of the research topics that would be considered to meet the requirements for
independent reports from each student. The intent is to see how the student would perceive his or her role in the
space planning process as part of the scope of a facilities manager or as a team member working with a facilities
management team in association with user groups, space planners, architects, engineers, interior designers,
environmental experts, financial advisors and funding institutions, government agencies and the general public.
LIST OF TOPICS:
Consider that you are part of the facilities management team assigned to work on a project which potentially involved
the following:

a. Consider constructing a new facility for a banking corporation with 6,000 employees
b. Consider expanding an existing facility for a pharmaceutical company that believe its
research space is insufficient and dysfunctional
c. Consider renovating an existing hotel with 200 rooms and social function areas

The report should cover the role and tasks that should be performed by the facilities manager in

supporting the work of the specialties noted below so as to ensure that the end result of the interaction is a better,

more functional, maintainable, cost effective and efficient facility.
