1) For a given newly produced instrument, the following inputs (x) and
the corresponding outputs (y) are measured.
a. Fit a linear curve to the data, and determine the standard error of
the estimate (sy/x).
b. Find an alternative curve using exponential regression.
2. A test result for elongation x and force f for a new spring on an automobile
suspension system is shown below. Due to spring hardening above the force
400 KN , the linear relationship between the force and the displacement
breaks down. Fit a saturation growth- rate model to the given data so that
the resulting curve represents the linear part as well as the nonlinear part.

• Solve all the problems by using excel sheet/ Matlab and submit the
final assignment report in MS Word file.
