Summary Writing

GENERAL GUIDELINES
 Rule off after your last piece of work.
 Write down the date.
 WRITE DOWN THE TITLE OF THE WORK WE

ARE COMPLETING (Eg, Summary Writing).

REMEMBER, YOU CANNOT GIVE OUT WHAT YOU DO


NOT HAVE, HENCE, YOU CANNOT ANSWER
QUESTIONS YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

 The purpose of a summary is to clearly
CONDENSE your thoughts.
 A summary is A SHORT text (Piece of writing)

that CONTAINS all the important details about


a text.
 The summary MUST still give the same

message as the ORIGINAL TEXT.


HOW TO WRITE A GOOD SUMMARY

 Read the instructions carefully.
 Follow ALL the instructions.
 CAREFULLY read the text to be summarised.
 Rewrite the main points in the form of a

paragraph/sentences (as per the


instructions).
 Use YOUR OWN words.
 Read/Edit your summary.

understanding of the poem.


 Poems use figurative language.
 What is figurative language?

 Onomatopoeia.

For you to do, copy and complete the table on


pg. 98.
IDIOMS AND PROVERBS
 Refer to your notes and write down the
definitions of idioms and proverbs.

 Study the table on page. 99 and EXPLAIN each


idiom or proverb.

someones life.
