History
Christopher Columbus
520 years ago, on October 12, 1492,
Christopher Columbus's expedition
reached the island of San Salvador
in the Bahamas archipelago. This
day is considered the official date
of the discovery of America.
Christopher Columbus drew up a
project of the western, in his
opinion, the shortest sea route
from Europe to India.
Mao Tse Tung
Mao Tse Tung is a Chinese political
leader, Maoist theoretician, poet. The
founder of the Chinese Communist Party in
1921, soon became its leader. He is
considered a national hero in China.
Mao, having received in 1949 an
underdeveloped agrarian country mired in
anarchy, corruption and general
destruction, in a short period of time
turned it into a fairly powerful,
independent state possessing atomic
weapons.
Johan Gutenberg
Johann Gutenberg is a German first
printer, jeweler and inventor. Born in
Mainz. A precision mechanic of a noble
family. In the mid-1440s, he created a
method of printing with movable letters,
which was widely spread. In 1452, he
began printing the Bible — the first
large book, technically and
aesthetically perfect for that time.
Over the course of three years, he
produced 180 copies, of which 48 have
survived to this day.
Marie Curie
Marie Curie (1867-1934) was a physicist,
chemist and pioneer in the study of
radiation. She discovered the elements
polonium and radium with her husband,
Pierre. They were awarded the Nobel
Prize in Physics in 1903, also Marie
received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in
1911. She was the first woman to win a
Nobel Prize, and she is the only woman
to win the award in two different
fields.
George Washington
George Washington - American statesman,
first president of the United States
(1789-1797), founding father of the
United States, commander-in-chief of the
Continental Army, participant in the War
for the Independence of the North
American States, creator of the American
Institute of the Presidency, general of
the United States Army, national hero of
the country.
Martin Luther King

Martin Luther King - American Baptist


pastor, civic activist, orator,
leader of the civil rights movement
of the 1960s. Promoted the tactics
of non-violence in the fight against
racism. King's unique contribution
to the cause of human rights
protection was determined by his
inclination to the principles of
Christian philosophy.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791)


was one of the most influential,
popular and prolific composers of
the classical period. He composed over
600 works, including some of the most
famous and loved pieces of symphonic,
chamber, operatic, and choral music.
Mozart was born in Salzburg to a
musical family.
Galileo
Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) was a
natural philosopher, astronomer, and
mathematician who made fundamental
contributions to the sciences of
motion, astronomy, and strength of
materials and to the development of the
scientific method. He also made
revolutionary telescopic discoveries,
including the four largest moons of
Jupiter.
Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821),


also known as Napoleon I, was a
French military leader and emperor
who conquered much of Europe in
the early 19th century. Born on
the island of Corsica, Napoleon
rapidly rose through the ranks of
the military during the French
Revolution (1789-1799).
Queen Elizabeth I

Elizabeth I (1533–1603) was Queen of


England and Ireland during a period,
often called the Elizabethan Age, when
England asserted itself vigorously as
a major European power in politics,
commerce, and the arts. Elizabeth was
the last monarch of the House of Tudor
and sometimes referred to as the
"Virgin Queen".
