• Till date 21 Indian soldiers have been awarded this honour. 20
soldiers from the Indian army and one from the Air Force.
• Major Somnath Sharma was its first recipient
• the awards are announced twice a year-first on the Republic day and
then on the occasion of the Independence day .
• There is a provision for the Param Vir Chakra been awarded for the
second time. No one has received it twice yet.
• The Comic Book series ‘Amar Chitra Katha’ has a special comic book
titled ‘Param Vir Chakra’, as a tribute to recipients of the honour.
