CROPPING
SYSTEM
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

 identify the different types of cropping system ,

 recognize the advantages and disadvantages associated with each

agricultural practice, and

 develop a positive attitude towards taking care of the environment while

practicing sustainable agriculture in crop management.
CROPPING SYSTEM
A cropping system is how farmers plan and organize the
growing of crops in a particular area. It includes decisions
about which crops to plant, when to plant them, and how
they are taken care of.
 MONOCROPPING
 MULTIPLE CROPPING
Monocropping, also known
as continuous cropping, it is
known when a farmer grow a
AGENDA
single crop on a piece of land
without alternating it with
other.

AND DISEASES
MULTIPLE
CROPPING

Multiple Cropping is
the practice of growing
two or more crops in
the same piece of land

9
TWO TYPES OF
Sequential cropping
MULTIPLE
CROPPING Intercropping

10
SEQUENTIAL
CROPPING
Sequential cropping is
growing two or more
crops in succession on
the same field each
year

11
INTERCROPPING
Intercropping is an
agricultural technique where
two or more crops are grown
together in the same area.

12
INTERCROPPING COMES IN DIFFERENT
TYPES

1.Row Intercropping 5. Agroforestry Intercropping

2.Strip Intercropping 6. Trap Cropping
3.Mixed Intercropping 7. Guard Cropping
4.Relay Intercropping

13
ROW Planting different crops in alternate
INTERCROPPING rows .

14
STRIP Growing different crops in strips or
INTERCROPPING bands. It could be strips of wheat
and clover, for instance.

15
Mixing seeds of different crops
MIXED
INTERCROPPING and sowing them together in the
same area.

16
RELAY
INTERCROPPING

Planting a second crop in

the same field before the
first one is harvested

17
Combining trees or shrubs with
AGROFORESTRY
crops, creating a mix of woody
INTERCROPPING and non-woody plants

18
TRAP
CROPPING
Intercropping technique aids in
trapping pests to protect the
main culture.

19
GUARD are used as barriers to protect the main
species from winds or invasions. The main
CROPPING crop is grown in the center, where hardy or
thorny crops surround it.
