INTRODUCTION
The adaptive street light control system using ESP32CAM is a smart lighting system designed
to control street lights based on the surrounding lighting conditions.

This system employs the use of an ESP32CAM, which is a low-cost, Wi-Fi enabled
microcontroller with an integrated camera, to monitor the ambient lighting levels.

The system uses an LDR sensor to detect the surrounding light intensity and adjust the
brightness of the LED street light accordingly.

Overall, the adaptive street light control system using ESP32CAM offers a cost-effective and
efficient solution for street lighting control, as it ensures that street lights are only operating at
the required brightness levels, thus reducing energy consumption and costs while also
improving road safety.

Technology” by Y. Zhou, L. Wang, and H. Wang.
• This paper describes a wireless street lighting control system that uses ESP32 and
LoRa technology to improve the efficiency and flexibility of the street lighting system.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 Energy consumption: Traditional street lighting systems often operate at a fixed brightness level,

regardless of the ambient lighting conditions. This can lead to unnecessary energy consumption and

costs.

 Safety concerns: Inadequate lighting levels can pose a safety hazard to pedestrians and motorists,

especially in areas with high traffic or crime rates.

 Maintenance costs: Traditional street lighting systems require regular manual maintenance to ensure that

the lights are operating at optimal levels, which can be time-consuming and costly.

 Limited control options: Traditional street lighting systems often do not offer the flexibility to adjust

lighting levels based on changing conditions or user preferences.

OBJECTIVE
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT ARE:
 Energy efficiency: One of the main objectives is to reduce energy consumption by
optimizing the use of street lights.
 Cost reduction: Another objective is to reduce the cost of street lighting by reducing
energy consumption, maintenance costs, and replacement costs of traditional street
lights.
 Improved safety: The adaptive street light control system can improve road safety by
providing adequate lighting on the roads and reducing the risk of accidents and crime.
It further contains a panic button that can be pressed by a person in case of
emergency such as accidents which would send few consecutive photos to the nearest
police station through telegram.
METHODOLOGY
The system uses an ESP32CAM, which is a low-cost, Wi-Fi enabled microcontroller
with an integrated camera.

The LDR sensor is used to detect the surrounding light intensity and send this
information to the ESP32CAM microcontroller.

The rectifier is used to convert AC power into DC power, which is then filtered to
remove any unwanted noise or voltage spikes.
HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS
 LDR: LDR stands for Light Dependent Resistor, which is a type of electronic component that
is used to detect the presence or absence of light. It is also commonly known as a photoresistor.

 Transformer: A transformer is a passive electrical device that transfers electrical energy from
one circuit to another through electromagnetic induction.

 ESP32CAM: The ESP32-CAM is a compact and affordable development board that is based
on the ESP32 microcontroller and comes with an integrated camera module.

 LED Street Light: LED street lights are energy-efficient lighting fixtures that are designed to
illuminate outdoor areas such as roads, streets, and parking lots. LED street lights use light-
emitting diodes (LEDs) as their primary light source.

 Regulator: A regulator is an electronic device that is used to maintain a constant voltage or

current level in a circuit. It is commonly used in electronic devices that require a stable power
supply to operate properly.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
 Arduino IDE: It stands for “Arduino integrated development environment”. It
contains a text editor for writing and editing of the code.

 Telegram: Telegram is a cloud-based instant messaging app that allows users to send
messages, photos, videos, and files of any type up to 2 GB.

 BotFather: BotFather is a special bot on Telegram that allows users to create and
manage their own bots. Users can interact with the BotFather by sending commands
and specifying parameters to create new bots, set bot profiles and pictures, configure
bot commands, and manage bot settings.

the traditional street lighting system.
 The system provides automatic control of street lights based on the ambient light
level, reducing energy consumption, and carbon footprint.
 The use of ESP32CAM provides a reliable and cost-effective platform for data
processing and communication.
 The integration of LDR, power buzz, push-up button, transformer, rectifier, filter,
regulator, and LED street lights further enhances the system's performance and
efficiency.
 Overall, this system using ESP32CAM has demonstrated significant potential in
addressing the challenges of energy consumption and environmental sustainability in
street lighting systems.
