The Colosseum

Colosseum is in Rome and it was made by the


mighty emperor Vipasion for his successor
Titus. The word colosseum has come from the
word colossal. It was built in the 72 AD. The
colosseum is egg-shaped. It is 620 feet long
and 520 feet wide.It is also 158 feet tall and it
covers a vast expanse of 6 acres! More than
1.1 million concrete stone and brick was used
to build this ginormous structure!

The colosseum has more than 80 entrances


and is large enough to accommodate 50,000
spectators!
Why was Colosseum built?
The Colosseum was mainly built for citizens
entertainment. In the colosseum they
performed new skills of war and battle. The
people who fought were known as
gladiators who at times even fought with
man-eaters like
lions,tigers,cheetahs,leopards and many
more. The fights even use to go up to 100
days and fought day and night tirelessly!

Though the battles use to do be bloody and
seeing the sight of someone dead was
painful.

Although in those ancient days these fights


were legal but now they are not and now
they are no such fights held in any stadium.
How was the colosseum destroyed?
The colosseum was destroyed because of a massive
earthquake which occured in 1349 which devastated
half of the grand colosseum. It was also destroyed
by pollution and fire/flame.

The colosseum was named after the
humongous structure that stood outside
known as the Colossus. The statue was an
image of the Roman sun god but sadly it was
demolished and was used for scrap-metal.
