INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

 The attitude of students towards mathematics can have an impact on their learning outcomes.
 Students who exhibit a positive attitude towards mathematics are likely to attain higher levels of achievement,
and students who demonstrate high achievement are likely to cultivate more positive attitudes towards
mathematics.
 Examining the attitude of students towards learning Mathematics will gain a comprehensive understanding of
their beliefs, perceptions, and emotional responses towards the subject.
 Uncover the underlying causes behind students' positive or negative attitudes and provide insights into the
potential barriers or facilitators that influence their academic performance in Mathematics.
 A positive attitude towards mathematics can enhance students' motivation, engagement, and achievement in
the subject. Conversely, a negative attitude can hinder their progress and limit their potential.
INTRODUCTION
Statement of the Problem
This study will be conducted to determine the relationship between the attitude and the learning of
mathematics of the Junior High School Students in Sumbiling National High School. Specifically, it seeks answers to
the following questions:
1. What is the demographic profile in the students’ in terms of:
1.1 age
1.2 gender; and
1.3 family income
2. What are the attitudes of the Junior High School Students towards learning Mathematics in Sumbiling National
High School in terms of:
1.1 study habits;
1.2 mathematics achievement;
1.3 motivation; and,
1.4 learning environment
INTRODUCTION

3. Is there a significant difference between the attitude of the students towards learning Mathematics and their
demographic profile?
INTRODUCTION

Scope and Delimitation

This study will delimit in terms of problem, locale, population, and duration.

Problem: This study will focus on the attitude of the Junior High School Students towards learning
Mathematics.
Locale: The researchers will conduct this study at Sumbiling National High School particularly in Junior
High School Department, Sumbiling, Bataraza, Palawan.
Population: This study will involve all the Junior High School Students in Sumbiling National High
School.
Duration: This study will start in January 2024 and will be finished in March 2024.
RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

According to Kibrislioglu (2016), defines attitude towards mathematics as liking or disliking of the subject;
a tendency to engage in or avoid mathematical activities; a belief that one is good or bad at mathematics; and a belief
that mathematics is useful or useless.
Gaspard et al. (2015) explored the role of value beliefs and interest in mathematics in predicting students'
attitudes towards the subject. Their research revealed that students who recognized the value of mathematics and
found it interesting were more prone to having positive attitudes towards the subject.

Conceptual Framework
In order to understand the study clearly, the conceptual framework will illustrate to exhibit the flow of the
independent variable, dependent variable moderation variable and how these variables relate each other. The
researchers strongly believed that the attitudes of the Junior High School Students towards in learning mathematics is
not affected by their demographic profile.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design
This research study will use a descriptive method to investigate the attitude of the Junior High School
Students in Sumbiling National High School towards learning Mathematics in terms of their demographic profile
(age, gender and parent’s occupation). This study is timely and presents the situation happening in Mathematics class
nowadays.

Population and Sampling

The study will involve the Junior High School Students from different grade level in Sumbiling National
High School for the School Year 2023-2024.
METHODOLOGY

Data Gathering Instrument

In order to measure the variable of the attitudes of the Junior High School Students towards learning
Mathematics, a research questionnaire will be developed. Each item in every question will answer on a Likert’s five-
point scale bearing the categories strongly agree – 5, agree – 4, moderately agree – 3, disagree – 2, and strongly
disagree. In addition, their demographic profile will include in terms of student’s age gender and parent’s occupation.

Statistical Treatment
The statistical tools that the researchers will utilize in gathering, interpreting and analyzing data are the
frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, and analysis of variance (ANOVA).
