HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVE

AND PARTIAL POINT OF

VIEW
LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Distinguish a holistic perspective from a

partial point of view
• Explain the importance of holistic thinking
over partial thinking; and
• Write a personal action plan on how to deal
with everyday life from a holistic perspective
A philosopher’s way of thinking can be
described as “abstractive”. This means that it
rises from the level of everyday life to a
higher level that gives a bird’s eye view of the
whole.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOLISTIC
PERSPECTIVE AND PARTIAL POINT OF VIEW?

•HOLISTIC THINKING IS WHEN YOU

SEE THINGS AS WHOLE; YOU
LOOK AT REALITY THAT IS
PRESENTED TO YOU IN ALL SIDES.
HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVES
•HOLISM – a part cannot be determine a
whole system because the relationships
or connections of parts are independent
of the whole, only the whole can
determine its parts.
•Example: A+B=C, where C is equal to A
and B. But A is not equal to C, nor B is to C
HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVES

•Emergentism – asserts that

complex systems and patterns
arise out of a multiplicity of
relatively simple interactions.
HOLISTIC PERSPECTIVES

•VITALISM. Posits that the processes of

life are not explicable by the laws of
physics and chemistry alone and that
life in some parts is self-determining and
is due to a vital principle distinct from
physicochemical forces.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOLISTIC
PERSPECTIVE AND PARTIAL POINT OF VIEW?

•PARTIAL THINKING IS
WHEN YOU SEE ONLY
THE PART OF REALITY.
PARTIAL PERSPECTIVE
•Reductionism – a complex
system is nothing but the
sum of its parts and that an
account of it can be reduced
to accounts of individual
constituents.
PARTIAL PERSPECTIVE

•Atomism – only atoms

exist, and objects with
parts like the human
body, house clouds and
the like do not exist.
PHILOSOPHY teaches us
to see things holistically. It
gives us the proper
perspective in dealing with
our experiences.
