Natural order-Liliaceae.
Preparation-Trituration or solution in spirit of gum
Aloe socotrina is prepared from a plant common in the
East and South Africa.
It’s a remedy that suits symptoms associated with
irritable bowel, ulcerative colitis, or portal congestion
(raised blood pressure in the portal and other veins
draining into the liver).
Bad effects from sedentary life or habits.
Introduction.
There is no remedy richer in symptoms of portal
congestion and none that has given better clinical
results,
Bad effects lead from sedentary life or habits.
Especially suitable to lymphatic and
hypochondriacal patients.
Sphere of action and pathogenesis
ACTS ON:
Mucous membrane of intestine-Diarrhoea, dysentery,
haemorrhoids.
Rectal muscles- Loss of control over sphincter ani.
Various organs- Congestion.
Portal system- Disturbance of veins of portal system
causing congestion.
Liver- Portal congestion.
Large intestine- Increased peristalsis.
Skin- Eczema.
Constitution
Adapted to weary people, the aged, and phlegmatic
and old beer-drinkers.
Dissatisfied and angry about himself.
Suited to old people and relaxed phlegmatic women.
Indolent weary people leading sedentary life.
Aversion to physical and mental labour.
Temperament- Bilious.
Thermally- Hot patient..
Miasma- Psora.
Characteristic features.
Drug for diarrhoea for insecurity of rectum due to loss of power over
sphincter ani muscles. Want of confidence.

Lack of control over sphincter ani.

Profuse jelly like mucus from all the mucous membrane specially of the
intestine.

Has peculiar engorgement of veins specially of portal system causing


fullness throughout body.

Drug for diarrhoea and dysentery.


Characteristic features
Haemorrhoids look like a bunch of grapes that bleed.

Bad effects after sedentary life.

Dissatisfied and angry about oneself.

Involuntary stools - Solid stools passes involuntarily.

All gastrointestinal complaints are aggravated after


eating and drinking warm application.
Mental symptoms.
Preoccupied with his disease .

Irritable, discontented, filled with displeasure.

Cross, peevish personality aggravated by cloudy weather.

 Angry when hearing different opinion. Has to restrain himself.

Irritable before stool, weak after.


Mental symptoms
 Mental activity alternating with indolence.

 Dissatisfied and angry with himself especially when constipated.

 Appears to be calm, content. Underneath, he is indifferent, not


involved in life.

 Loathing of life.

 Fear on seeing blood, doctors and hospitals, on being alone and


high places.

 Mental symptoms are aggravated in the evening.


Headache
Complaints of head alternate with:
Abdominal, uterine symptoms, back pain, hemorrhoids.
Causation – Constipation, sedentary life, heat. Pain during
constipation, before stool.
Location - Forehead.
Sensation - Aching pain across forehead. Dull pain with
heaviness in eyes and nausea.
Modalities - Aggravated from heat and amelioration from
cold application.
Congestive pain – Ameliorated by cold applications, and
aggravated by heat.
Particulars
Eyes - Compelled to become small during pain in
forehead. Flickering before eyes. Redness of eyes
with yellow vision. Pain deep in orbits.

Face - Marked redness of lips.

Ears - Cracking when chewing. Sudden explosion


and clashing in left ear. Tinkling as of some thin,
shivered, metallic globe in head.
Particulars
Urinary - Incontinence in aged, bearing-down
sensation and enlarged prostate. Scanty and high
colored.
Female - Bearing down in rectum, worse while
standing and during menses. Uterus feels heavy,
one cannot walk much on that account. Labor-like
pains in loins; extend down legs. Climacteric
hemorrhage. Menses too early and too profuse.
Gastrointestinal Complaints
Stomach –
Aversion to meat.
Longing for juicy things.
After eating : flatulence, pulsation in rectum.
Nausea, with headache.
Pain in pit of stomach when making false step.
Gastrointestinal Complaints
Abdomen –
Pain around navel, worse pressure.
Fullness in region of liver, pain under right ribs.
Abdomen feels full, heavy, hot and bloated. Pulsating pain
around navel.
Weak feeling, as if diarrhea would come .
 Great accumulation of flatus, pressing downwards, causing
distress in lower bowels.
Sensation of plug between symphysis pubis and
coccyx, with urging to stool. Colic before and during stool.
Burning, copious flatus.
Rectal complaints
Constant bearing down in rectum; bleeding, sore, and hot;
relieved by cold water. Feeling of weakness and loss of power of
sphincter ani.
 Sense of insecurity in rectum, when passing flatus. Uncertain
whether gas or stool will come.
Stool passes without effort, almost unnoticed. Lumpy, watery
stool. Jelly-like stools, with soreness in rectum after stool.
 A lot of mucus, with pain in rectum after stool.
Hemorrhoids protrude like grapes, very sore and tender,
Better cold water application. Burning in anus and rectum.
Constipation, with heavy pressure in lower part of abdomen.
Diarrhea from beer.
Particulars
Back:
Pain in small of back; worse while moving. Stitches
through sacrum.
Lumbago alternating with headache and piles.
Extremities:
Lameness in all limbs.
 Drawing pains in joints. Soles pain when walking.
Modalities:
Worse early morning; summer; heat; in hot, dry weather;
after eating or drinking. Better from cold, open air.
Generalities:
Portal congestion and stasis.
Aggravation by heat.
Amelioration on cold applications, open air.
Sensation of a plug internally; sensation of congestion over surface
of body.
FOOD AND DRINKS:
 Desires: Fruit, especially apples.
 Aggravation on consummation of beans, peas and sour things
RELATIONSHIP:
Complementary: Sulphur.
Compare: Kali bich; Lycopodium; Allium sat.
Antidotes: Opium; Sulphur.
