 ITRODUCTION Aloe
socotrina is an excellent
remedy like Nux Vomica in
 re-establishing physiological
equilibrium after much
drugging

 SPHERES OF ACTION
 It acts especially upon the
nervous system, portal
system, blood and skin.
 It has got special action
upon the liver and intestine.
 PATHOGENESIS
 When acting on mucous
membrane of
gastrointestinal tract,
 it produces diarrhoea,
dysentery and haemorrhage
from the haemorrhoidal
vessels.
 It affects the intestine
especially rectum producing
loss of control of sphincter
ani.
 It also causes congestion
of various parts, especially
abdomen, pelvic organs and
head.
 CONSTITUTION
 Physical make-up:
Especially suited to old
people, women of relaxed,
phlegmatie habit.
 (Not easily excited to action or
display of emotion; apathetic;
sluggish. self-possessed, calm,
or composed.)
 Indolent (not wanting to
work; lazy)
 weary persons (very tired)
leading sedentary life,
averse to either physical and
mental labour.
 Temperament: Bilious
temperament.
 Relation with heat and
cold: Hot patient.
 Miasm: Psora is in the
background.
 GUIDING SYMPTOMS :
 Profuse jelly like of mucus
from all mucous membranes,
especially of intestine and
throat (Kali bi., Podo.,
Helleborus).

 Insecurity of rectum with

want of confidence and
power in sphincter ani.
 Hot patient, aggravation
from warm and amelioration
 from cold water, cold
weather.
 Itch appears each year as
winter approaches.

 Dissatisfied and angry

about himself or his
complaints, especially when
constipated.
 Haemorrhoid like a bunch
of grapes, blue, which bleeds
and is sore, tender and hot.
 With itching relieved by
cold application.
 Diarrhoea followed by
obstinate constipation.
 Solid stool passes out
involuntarily.
 PARTICULARS
 Headache :
 Causation: Due to
insufficient stool and from
sedentary life.
 Location: Headache across
the forehead.
 Character: Congestive
type of headache,
 sensation of heat on the
surface with feeling of
congestion.

 And fullness, aching pain

above the forehead, with
heaviness in the eyes, must
close them.
 Modalities: Aggravation
from every foot-step,
 from heat and
amelioration from cold
application.
 Concomitants: Headache
alternates with lumbago.
 Gastro-intestinal
symptoms :
 Diarrhoea : Causation:
after eating and drinking.
 Time: Early in the
morning.
 The patient has to hurry
to the closet, driving out of
bed.

immediately after eating and
drinking WITH WANT OF
CONFIDENCE IN SPHINCTER
ANI.
 Quantity : Scanty stool.
 Character: WATERY,
yellowish, jelly-like mucus in
the stool, painful.
 Before stool ; The
abdomen is distended with
gas,
 causing a feeling of
fulness and tightness with
rumbling and gurgling sound
in the abdomen,
 with sudden urging and
heaviness in the rectum,
 During stool: Cutting,
griping pain in right lower
portion of abdomen,
 excruciating type of pain
with much flatus, When
passing flatus,
 Sensation as if stool would
also pass with it.
 The flatus is very
offensive, burning and
copious.
 Much flatus with small
quantity of stool, burning in
anus after passage of flatus.
 Also during stool, there is
gushing of thin, yellowish,
watery, offensive and
excoriating faeces
 which burns like fire
making the anus sore.
Hungry during stool.
 After stool: All pains cease
after stool, LEAVING
PROFUSE SWEATING AND
PROFOUND WEAKNESS.
 Modalities: Aggravation
after eating and drinking.
Concomitants:
 Diarrhoea alternates with
headache. ,
 Dysentery - There is
inflammatory condition of
lower portion of colon and
rectum.
 Character of stool: Bloody
discharge with much jelly-
like mucus and less blood.
 Sometimes the patient
passes nothing but large
quantity of jelly-like mucus
only.
 Before stool: Rumbling
sound in the abdomen which
is full of gas.
 During stool: Cutting,
griping pain in the lower
portion of abdomen.
 After stool: Profound
weakness and prostration.
 Modalities: Aggravation
after eating and drinking.
 Constipation: Causation:
Sedentary life.
 Character of stool: Hard
lump without any urging to
stool.
Solid stool and masses of
mucus pass involuntarily.
 There is entire loss of
sensation in anus, no feeling
during passage of stool.
 Piles: Causation:
Sedentary life and portal
congestion.
 Character: Bleeding piles.
 Appearance: Like a bunch
of grapes; bluish in colour.

 Character of pain:
Constant bearing down pain
in the rectum with intense
itching and burning in anus,
preventing sleep.
 Very much tender, hot
and sore with loose stool.
 Modalities : Aggravation:
From heat.
 Amelioration: By cold
application.
 General Modalities :
 Aggravation: Early in the
morning, sedentary life, hot
dry weather,
 after eating and drinking,
standing or walking.
 Amelioration: Cold water,
cold weather, discharge of
flatus and stool.
 Relations :
 Complementary to
Sulphur.
 It is antidoted by Sulphur,
but it resembles Sulphur in
many symptoms
 and it is of equal
importance with Sulphur in
chronic diseases with
abdominal plethora.
