Using Principles of an

Effective Speech
Writing
An effective speech writing means applying
the principles in speech writing such as
conducting audience analysis, determining the
purpose of the speech, selecting a topic,
narrowing down a topic, gathering data and

Speech Writing an effective speech needs to follow
Writing certain rules/processes. The process for writing
is not chronological or linear; rather, it is
recursive; meaning, you can repeat the
procedures and have more drafts before you
can settle for your final draft.

Speech Writing
Audience analysis is the process of determining the
values, interests, and attitudes of the intended or
projected listeners or readers.
The following are the ways in analyzing the

Analysis A. Demographic Analysis involves age, gender, culture,
ethnicity, race, religion, and educational level.
B. Attitudinal Analysis addresses the audience's
attitudes, beliefs, and values.
C. Environmental Analysis is finding out things like the
seating arrangement, the number of people likely
to attend, and the room lighting.
It is important to identify your purpose in
writing and delivering the speech. It can be
classified into three: to inform, to entertain, or
to persuade.

with well-argued ideas that can influence

The purpose can be general and specific. Study the

can be determined once you have decided on
your purpose. Strategies to use in selecting

Narrowing down the topic means making your main
idea more specific and focused. Strategies used in
selecting a topic can be also applied in narrowing down
a topic.

 Specific Topic: Describing the life and


advocacies of Jessa Belle Garibay-Yayen
Description: It discusses cause and effect of
(an) occurrence(s).

Examples:
 Specific Purpose: To discuss the cause and

Description: It describes the problem, identifies
the cause of the problem, and suggest solutions.

Examples:

 Specific Topic: Giving details of the result of
PISA, addressing the possible causes of the low
comprehension of students, and proposing
viable solutions
