informations
Easter Island, also known as Rapa Nui, is
a remote volcanic island located in the
southeastern Pacific Ocean. It belongs
to Chile and is located approximately
3,700 kilometers (2,300 miles) off the
coast of mainland Chile.
Location
The island is situated in the
southeastern Pacific Ocean,
about 3,700 kilometers (2,300
miles) west of Chile (South
America). It is considered one
of the most isolated, inhabited
islands on Earth.
Basic
features
The island is famous for its
massive stone statues called moai,
which were created by the
indigenous Rapa Nui people. There
are nearly 900 moai scattered
throughout the island, with the
largest one named "Paro"
measuring around 10 meters (33
feet) in height and weighing
approximately 75 tons.
Local food
Seafoods plays a prominent role in the
local cuisine, with dishes such as fresh
grilled fish or tuna empanadas being
popular choices. The traditional dish called
"curanto" (or Rapa Nui Curanto) is a feast
cooked in an underground oven, consisting
of various meats, fish, root vegetables, and
banana leaf-wrapped dough.
