MOA : It interferes with lipid
metabolism or prevent synthesis of
critical cell surface anchor molecules
or alter signal transduction.
Side-effects
• Persistent nausea
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Skin allergy
• Hepatic derangements
• Rise in serum creatinine
• C/I Pregnancy
Dosage
• . Miltefosine (all doses given orally with meals
for 28 days)
• Adults (>12 years) weighing > 25 kg : 100
mg/day (50 mg cap twice daily)
• Adults (>12 years) weighing <25 kg: 50 mg/day
(50 mg cap once daily)
• Children (2-11 years): 2.5 mg/kg/day (as 10 mg
caps)
PRAZIQUANTEL
• It is the antihelmintic drug used to treat
cestodes and trematodes
• Cestodes includes T.solium (intestinal
form), T.saginata, H.nana, D.latum.
• Trematodes include Schistosomes, Lung
flukes, Liver flukes.
MOA: It stimulates
calcium channel and
cause leakage of
SIDE EFFECTS:
intracellular calcium
Impaired alertness,
from membranes
myalgiaz arthraliga
producing contracture
and cause spastic
paralysis
• CONTRAINDICATION: In ocular
cysticercosis – cause blindness
• DRUG INTERACTION: Phenytoin,
carbamazepine and dexamethasone
induce praziquantel metabolism .
• Dosage depends on the parasite.
