ORGANISING THE ROMAN
EMPIRE
Roman empire was divided into provinces and are overseen by governors who are in
charge of the daily activities in his jurisdiction with 30-40 officials.
The governor held court laws and inspects his province.
The officials were lawyers, tax collector and clerks, they assists the governor in the
administration of the province.
The provinces paid taxes to Rome for effective communication like roads, sea routes so
that the Roman army could travel swiftly whenever there was problem or rebellion.
ARMY

The army was organized into:


 The Legion
 The axilla
The army used tactics with discipline and training to win most of their battles.
The archers with arrows, foot soldiers with shield and Calvary with their flanks.
Roman towns
The roman empire was divided into 3- Colonies, Municipia and Civitas.
The colonies were occupied by soldiers who retired from the army.
Municipia were occupied by Roman citizens and to show their local tribes.
The tribal areas were called civitas and are directly controlled by the governor of the
province.

Germanic tribes from northern Europe crossed the Roman frontier and invaded
Greece, Italy, Spain, and coastal areas of Asia Minor.

The warmer climate, rich farmlands, and wealth of the Roman lands attracted the Germanic tribes.
By the 5th century, the Roman Empire was overrun by barbarians.
The Fall of Rome

Once the Roman army could no longer defend its borders, Germanic tribes began pouring
into Europe. One Roman province fell after another. In 476 A.D., the Western Roman
emperor was overthrown. Odoacer was then proclaimed king of Italy. The ancient world was
drawing to a close.
