87SR/86SR RATIO IN
S-TYPE GRANITE
NAME-MD ANISUR HOQUE
REGD NO-16121516015
CLASS ROLL NO-GEOL010
What is
Granite?
• Phaneritic rock Igneous rock with
>66% silica.
• According to IUGS classification rock
have mafic content <90% and in QAP
diagram have quartz 20-60%,
plagioclase 10-65% and alkali
feldspar 35-90%.
• Major mineral composition Quartz,
alkali feldspar , plagioclase, biotite,
muscovite, hornblende.
• [Though some time term granitic
rock is used to denote the all rocks
under granitoid rock group]
Initial 87Sr/86Sr
ratio
• 87Rb87Sr + beta particle
Half life 48Ga
• Initial 87Sr/86Sr indicate the value
during formation of the rock.
• Usually initial Sr ratio is high in crust
• Rubidium in more incompatible than
Strontium
• Rb behaves like K so it concentrates in
micas, amphiboles, and, to a lesser
extent, K-feldspar
• Sr behaves like Ca, so it concentrates in
plagioclase and apatite
S type granite
• Based source of the magma the granitic rocks can be Classified in to 4 groups:-
